A theoretical question now:
Let's suppose that Nibali, Contador, Froome and Quintana all race Giro and Tour (both ftw) next year.
Would you guys expect anybody else to win the Tour?

If someone like Uran focuses solely on the Tour, I'd say he could win it, especially if it's TT heavy.

No, one of the Giro riders will win the Tour. I think Contador has the best recovery, so he would be my pick for the Tour in that case.

Why not? I think he should have a serious go provided the weather is good.
GT champs should always test themselves on long TTs when given the chance.

that is what I am saying from the start of the Tour, he is aiming to beat CF therefore he made tremendous efforts to improve his long ITT in the winter. Let's see if my friend's tip has any credibility.

I think a certain German may have something to say about that.

Tony is pretty good but I don't think he can compete with the new breed of GC time triallists who have lowered their handlebars and used wind tunnels to prepare themselves. Not in the third week of a grand tour.

Speaking in Bergerac on Friday, however, Nibali dismissed the idea that he would ride simply to avoid risks during the penultimate day time trial to Perigueux, suggesting instead, that he would look to add to his haul from this Tour.

“There won’t be a lot of risks tomorrow in the first place, because it’s a time trial and we’re riding alone. To honour my team, the race and this jersey, we must give it due importance and I’ll ride it like a leader,” Nibali said.

Nibbles to win the Giro2015 and skip the Tour. We then troll the Contador and Froome threads that their win is devalued, 'cause the champ is not there.

I'm sadly away tomorrow, so no ITT watching for me, but Nibbles to do a top 3.

Nibali will be known as the last Tour winner in the pre-Kelderman era ofcourse
D_T, as a long time lurker and also as someone raised on football banter, who enjoyed your hyping of Dutch riders over the year, I have to say - that line obviously lacks conviction! Get back to your best! ;)

I'm just sick of this "if Froome and Contador" stuff. Fanboys should just get over it and stop bitc-hing everywhere just because their darlings lost. Because they did. Bike handling is part of the sport, so it's 100% fair to say Nibali beat Contador and Froome in the 2014 TDF. The win is fully deserved.

let them have their fun, while we pray for Nibbles to do the giro next year, so no matter who wins the tour wouldn't be the "real" winner anyways, cause Nibali isn't there. Oh wait, this logic is only to be used on Froome and AC

Wait, I thought Froome won last year's Tour just because Nibs focused on the Giro :D

Of course, it is used only for AC and Froome. Nibali has never beaten the best in a GT, moreover he has always been crushed by Contador.
He is the one who should prove otherwise, not AC or even Froome assuming he is better climber & TT'er than the italian .

He'll certainly go on the Giro unfortunately, to win perhaps another GT against 2nd tier field, he always does that and that's why he is no champ in my eyes.

Altough you seem to not like very much Nibali, the vast majority of your 32 posts is in the Nibali thread. Why is that?

I really love cycling, and I feel bad bashing Nibbles because I appreciated him quite a lot before this TDF.
It all changed during the Planche Filles stage, when AC crashed out and Astana upped the pace. I felt really bad, and the sight of Astana right after in line in front of the peloton increasing it little by little was disgusting to me.
Then I didn't like Nibali's unfair provocations saying things "I've beaten them on almost every race last year", which is utter bull****.

Now he deserves to win no need to add "he'd have won even with ac & froome"

This man is a real Boss, Tony better have his TT hat on!

yea... Wiggo last year and the Froome/AC combo this year proves that Nibbles allways seek out the races with the worst competition... New low point for the AC/Froome propoganda machine?

For real? So Nibbes came to this Tour knowing that Froome and AC would crash and he would have an "easy" win?

Yep sorry I just got carried away with that point. Still, he never beat the best in the GT's he won. I think this year Nibali must have felt very lucky and priviliged for not having to deal with them again .

Nibali defeated Wiggins, Froome and Contador in GTs, unless staying in your bike it's not part of racing.

In that case we need to revise a lot of GT in the last hundred years.

There was a famous chess grandmaster who used to say "I never defeated a healthy opponent". :D

Sounds like a plan! :p

Hmm, I really shouldn't be encouraging trolling of other fans though, should I?
