The amount of crap thrown at Nibs yesterday for not being entertaining is a little rich considering there isn't a GC rider in the peloton (with the possible exception of Contador) who has animated more stages and races than Vincenzo has over his career.

+1.... Nibali is up there with the best in terms of entertaining always has and always will cause he ride with that thing called hearth!!

So, who thinks he can hold the leaders jersey? I'm doubtful; it seems like his form is up and down right now. I'll root for him though. Would be nice to see him aggressive in June.

Re: Nibali discussion thread

Today was what we want to see from this guy. Last years tour would have been such an epic fight if contador and froome hadn't crashed, but when I consider that Contador won this years giro, froome is certainly in good shape but not in 2013 super saiyajin mode, Quintana already showed his muscles too this year and now we finally know that nibali will probably also be in a good shape in july I think this tour could see an superb fight

Tomorrow's stage will be brutal. I have the same doubts as you. But then again, if there's anyone whom that profile suits he is one of them. For the race's sake I hope Valverde and Costa don't crack on those steep slopes.

We only saw the two easiest mtf´s of this dauphine so I very much doubt it nibali can hold the jersey, however todays stage might have been a sign that he will be in great shape in july
Ps: I think you meant july ;)

Geez, I wasn't able to see today's stage :(. Later I'll have to check out a replay. Nibs went from 115km out? Holy Crap, that is why this guy makes my heart beat faster!!!

I'm not sure he wants to or cares much. It seems like he's riding to a training plan, so maybe we're not going to see any more efforts from him. He knows he can do it now and possibly tomorrow he'll just follow Froome's wheel and let people go as he wants to assess his competition, very hard to know.

I think we all need to remember that the mental, attacking, I don't give a crap Nibali is an image from a time when most people thought he would lose or he wasn't a top favourite. Going all out to win a race was his game plan then. Now he's one of the top picks and defending champion in the biggest race of the year, that means a much more focussed build up (but hopefully then some fireworks come July!).

Mi man Nibbs once again proving the haters wrong !!! That's how he wins- by let them underestimate him and then he knocks 'em out without remorse.

"Avere la maglia gialla è bello, ma quella che voglio io si deve prendere a luglio"

So, it's nice to wear the yellow jersey but the one that he really wants is handed out in July.

Not also that, but Lo Squalo is light years ahead tactically of those GT-winner wannabes.

I think Nibali today wanted to show Froome that while he might lose 30 seconds on a summit finish or a TT, he can gain it all back and more by playing to his strengths and Froome's weaknesses - tactics and aggressiveness. Yeah sure, Froome might be a better climber and a better time-triallist (probably not by that much when they are both peaking), but Nibali is Nibali and can gain a minute or two in the most unlikely of stages. If AC is too tired then Nibali could win in July.

That is the Vincenzo that I and many here have been missing. His mindset, when he applies himself, is that of a rider from back in the day, like a jazz musician, improvising over the beat of the race's pulse.

Exactly this. I'd rather see this guy all season than have the version we've seen thus far even if racing the whole season means he never wins another Tour.

He is first and foremost a GT rider, apart from Contador the best there is in the last five years. That's how he earns his living so I don't think we'll see him racing the whole season soon. But very nicely said, Angliru.

I disagree with you. At least even if he wins he puts on a show instead of not winning a single stage and getting dropped. Tour 2014 was spectacular, almost every single stage was interesting. He attacked on the cobbles, attacked more than 10km from the finish when having a huge lead, won 4 stages. It was a spectacle.
And he never lost his ways. He did attack in the classics as well, just wasn't strong enough to hold it. Its that people don't remember it because those attempts weren't successful.
So winning GTs in a style that he has and attacking in other races even if not in shape (some of them even successful such as today) >>>>>> attacking successfuly in one week races

No I meant in June - right now. :)
I meant it was nice watching him race today and it would be cool if he kept it up for the next couple of days.

Please, be my guest. Highlight a single word that is not true. Just because you do not like the facts does not make it trolling

Even if it's true, it can still be trolling.

Posting factually supported opinions about Nibali in the Nibali thread is now considered trolling? Ooohhh-kayyyyy.

I think many on the forum would rather Nibali focus on other races so he is not as big of a GT threat to their favorite rider. Great show by him today in the rain. I don't think he will keep the jersey, but he put down a big marker on where his form is heading.

No, this was what I considered trolling
At least even if he wins he puts on a show instead of not winning a single stage and getting dropped.
Because the sole purpose seems to be to get Contador fans wound up.
FYI - damian13ster posted some stuff earlier about how it was pathetic that Contador did not win any stage and wasn't the best rider this Giro or something to that extent.

About this:
Fans disliked Armstrong's Tour-only approach. Fans disliked Schleck's Tour-only approach. Of course fans are also going to dislike Nibali's Tour-only approach. It's boring.

And in case you hadn't noticed, many people criticizing Nibali are or were big fans.
