Vincenzo's Tour 2014.
Great numbers for the greatest GT rider of the moment.

On the ascent to Hautacam (13.6 km at 7.8%) Vincenzo rode alone "in the wind" for 11 km, climbing in 37'30", VAM = 1696 m/h = 6.28 w/kg = 395w.
Froome and Contador would have easily put a minute into him on that mountain alone - it's obvious to anyone.
Numbers don't count, it's the way they breathe that is really relevant.

Well said! :D

Ullrich on who will win the 2015 Tour in @lemondefr: "For me it's quite obvious: Vincenzo Nibali."

He's the big favorite, not in the polls though for some reason. We haven't seen him climb at the same level as froome against froome though, only thing speaking against him.

Tour 2014 stats obviously state he could, let's see it now in the race. I think he can pull it off. And so many stages are in favor of nibali.

Not too sure, I think it's just general strapping in support of his ankle, except it goes quite high up his calf so it may be something else.

Sadly that’s what Contador’s fanboys actually believe...

We don't know, we will never know. Contador and Froome crashed so they weren't there.
Nibali won.

Oh god not this discussion again.
Stop wasting your time. We will never know, fact is Nibali won the tour and Contador/Froome crashed out. "What if" whatever you want it wont change a thing and I garantee it, you will never agree with eachother so this discussion is soooo pointless.
but it’s actually a matter of facts: Nibali was at least as strong as Contador in the mountains if you look at VAM and W/Kg data. Nibali started with over 2’30” on Contador, hence it was impossible to catch up.

Where did you get that from? That's pure random assumption. Funny thing is that Contador in the 3rd week of the Vuelta 14' was at least as strong as Nibali, and AC from the Vuelta was obviously not at his best, or at least not as good as in the Tour.

I find it funny that you've been comparing the Tour 2014 with the situation of the Tour 2013 between Froome and Contador and how Froome who had the same numbers as Nibali, was always dropping AC.
Is that your argument? Can you even begin to realise how stronger Contador 14' was compared to 2013?

And how can you say for sure that Contador was definetely not at his 09' level? When himself claimed that he had his best ever legs and that he had the same sensations as before the Tour 09'
Just go rewatch both Dauphiné 14' and Dauphiné 09".

And what do you make of Nibali's recovery vs incessant attacks from AC? He would've never been able to take it easy like he did on Risoul and plat d'adet and other stages where he finished with Péraud, keeping his strengh for Hautacam.
It was "free to play" for Nibali, he could do whatever he wanted against the french guys who were battling for second place, against Contador and Tinkoff, he would've been compelled to go through the roof every single mountain stage, let alone long ranged attacks from AC because that's what he would've ended up doing if MTF's were not enough.
OK, I guess it's indeed pointless to argue with Contador's fanboys. OK Nibali won 2013, let's see what happens next 3 weeksweeks. My feeling is that Nibali is an epsilon inferior to Quintana in the mountains and to Froome in ITT. The three are superior to Contador.
OMG!!! nibali better time trialist than contador?????? what????? better climber???......................................................................................
The three are better GC than Contador. I’m not claiming that Nibali is a better time trialist than Contador, but that is a better GC in July 2015. And this mainly because he rode the Giro.
No Giro for Contador and he could have been part of the game, even though I still see Nibali superior by an epsilon.

He mentioned to the media that he had been dealing with an achilles injury at some point this season.

That's a big loss, he'd have been great on the cobbles...

Rumours so far are that Vino wanted to replace Boom with Vanotti, but the UCI doesn't allow that anymore.
Apparently Vino refuses to start with 8 riders so big chance they ignore MPCC rules :)

they can??
I guess, until they confirm this to be a doping case
(up till know all we know is that Lars had low cortisol level which are suspicious but not incriminatory)

Re: Nibali discussion thread

“I’m sorry if Quintana was angry or offended. My intention was not to speak badly of Colombia, which is a wonderful country with a lot of great riders who are riding very strongly,” Nibali said. “It’s just that there was no news of Quintana and we were all asking ourselves about where he was, but not in a malicious way. We knew that Alberto was training in Livigno and where all the other contenders were and so on, I just meant ‘let’s see where Quintana is',"

lolz thats pretty sad that current TdF champion has less information than regular fans of cycling here

Sometimes I think we do have more information then they do. We probably read and keep track of way more cyclist's and race information, ect. then they do.

I don't like Nibali's comments because it seems pretty clear to me that he was indeed insinuating that Quintana was in a far away land evading the testers and would then magically show in Europe showing great form after not doing the European races that the others have. His attempt to back out of his comments don't hold up as it's pretty obvious that Quintana would be back in Colombia where he can spend time with his family and also train at altitude in familiar surroundings. Having said that, these guys get mics shoved in front of them and say want springs to mind in a particular moment - I'm sure if I was in that situation I'd say things I'd regret later too, so I don't really hold it against Nibali.

Fugslang crashed again?! It's strange to think someone who crashes so much came second last year in such a technical stage.

Anyway, Nibali looks super strong. He's never really been good in time trials and here he beat Froome by 8 seconds over just 14k, and was only 43 seconds off a world record set in better conditions. I'm starting to think he was underestimated going into the Tour, but we'll see Monday and Tuesday, and also tomorrow in the crosswinds.

Nibali wishes it was longer
(but Froome would have prepared the race better if that were the case)

We should expect a great first week. Maybe He plans to attack on one of those flat stages. Pavè won't be enough to claim the title
