Nibali messed up his positioning at the bottom of the Poggio and was pretty far back. His race was basically over there.

Shape is looking good. Didn't have the 5 hours of rain to help him swim this year.

There was nothing to do when QS killed everybody and launched Julien Punchaphillipe no matter the positioning. On the final flat he caught the front group too close to the finish for an attack though he tried to move but was blocked.

Not true. He was always very close to the front.
His position was perfect. Just did not have the legs he had last year (irrelevant at the end, as he was able to catch up with the leading group).

The mistake BM made, imho, is that he did not go to the front, working as a lead-out for Mohoric (possibly he did not have the legs). He and the Slovenian did not even speak, discussing a possible strategy. Fact that led to another mistake. Mohoric thought the second BM rider was Colbrelli, not Nibali.

You need to be in the first 10 at the Poggio, Nibali was like 20th or something

Ofcourse he didnt have the legs of last year, but if hed been positioned better he might have come back ealier or not miss that move at all and beem able to make a tactical move

I actually think he was faster than last year on the Poggio but I would need to check the times. I timed him 15 seconds behind leaders on top of the Poggio so 6:05. What was his time last year?

Pretty irrelevant since Stybar and Gilbert pushed one of the fastest times ever up the Poggio and you cant compare riding in a group with attacking by yourself. When the group as a whole goes up faster obviously every individual from previous years has worse times.

Absolutely true.
I just don't think he was significantly worse this year compared to last, given the different race circumstances.

Probably not a huge difference, but big enough not to be able to follow JA attack.
In pro cycling any small difference in form is a big difference in results.

There's nothing to complain about his performance, I think. Perhaps only his positioning on Poggio could have been a bit better, but I'm not sure. The guys who finished ahead of him are clearly the best classics riders right now and all of them are clearly in better shape (maybe except Mohoric).

How's the coffee Vincenzo? Trek really needed a replacement for Cancellara... Nibs to bag a couple of monuments, one WCRR or the Olympic gold. This year's Giro will be enough as GTs are concerned. Wait, next year starts in Sicily...
2021 will start in Sicily, next year is probably Budapest.

It would be a great learning experience for the young Italian riders that are riding for Trek and if Nibali is really going to focus more on one day races i'm all for it.
The rumour is that he dislikes some of the people that are working at BM and that they are forcing him to ride the Tour after the Giro.

They certainly did, at some point most likely when the Trek deal was on its way he said that Tour is what the team wanted, he wasn't keen on doing it.

Trek and Bahrein are probably the most disappointing teams of the year thus far.
Don't know if it's a good move, but as long as he's got Slongo and a couple of trusted teammates he should be fine.

Part of me wishes he doesn't perform at the Giro and decides to focus on one day races for the remaining years of his career. But I'm not sure a new team would approve of this approach.
