Does she always talk in the royal "we"

I must confess I am hoping that the Giro will come down to a stroke of brilliance by Nibali or Landa and a strong combative race against them by Dumoulin

Much and all as Roglic and Yates are great they don't excite me as riders ..sure they attack up hill but they are great climbers and we expect that ...I want the unknown ,the unexpected ...hence my hopes for Nibali

He defended brilliantly today and as a plus, his main lieutenants looked sharp. I wouldn't be totally surprised if he will try something tomorrow especially if it rains.

Only people who have no idea how Vincenzo operates are surprised by his performance today. As for Roglic, he'll have to defend in the mountains against attacks from quite a few elite climbers who will try to take back time, Dumoulin included. This and maybe peaking too early are his only vulnerabilities.

Whoever underestimates Vincenzo will be surprised in a very bad way. A superb performance. The main domestiques also looked well, indeed. The shark attacks are going to be brutal.

Great ride for the Shark today!

Most people realize that even in an individual event, many people still contribute to the result so 'we' is a good word to recognize their appreciation of the people making their result possible. I don't know if you watch motor sports, but they always say 'we' because even though the mechanic (ie:) doesn't ride the moto in the race, he is a huge part of the victory.

I don't agree with the idea Vincenzo has a weak team in this race, it's got a lot of experience and riders such as Caruso and Pozzovivo are so classy and the rest of the team will be motivated. When you consider Koren, Bole and Agnoli each of them are GT veterans and know how to go about their job perfectly.

I admit another climber would have been good (Pernsteiner or Teuns) but when you compare them to the other serious GT teams top 2 mountain domestiques I think Pozzo and Caruso stack up well. Bilbao and Izagirre are good, but will Ion be great at altitude/ can Bilbao back up from last year? Carapaz and Amador are good but will Amador be in great form/ will Carapaz end up as leader? Even if he does not, that could play on his mind. Nieve is another year older and Chaves needs to get back into his previous form and be consistent which on such a brutal route may be hard. Roglic and Dumoulin have strong teams but lack a clear 2nd guy to be around if things go bad for De Plus (who has been great this year but may suffer under the rigours of this hard Giro) and Oomen (who is very classy but still young) so there are doubts even around those riders.

Eh eh eh

Meanwhile Slongo says Nibali will peak in the third week. The man himself today:

"I am calm: I feel good, I have the condition, the team supports me, what more can I ask for? It was not easy to return to what I was, I was lucky to have so much support."

Congratulations to Nibali for his third Giro, so much power showed today, he picked the right doll and even made a miracoulous escapee from the mess that held up other contenders.

Not so sure, I think the voodoo now has a life of its own, out of control. Other forces were with him today, that save with Puccio crashing in front of him was star trek stuff.

In the stage up to Hatta Dam at UAE he stayed on the bike not even knowing how and in the video he looked like he was relaxed on the sofa by the look of his face.

Next year he should absolutely go to Roubaix.

I know how to ride my bike -- Vincenzo Nibali
:D :D

I re-watched the final and I'll try to sum up what happened from the Eurosport broadcast.

6,5 Km to go - Movistar is in front with three guys, Puccio falls to the right in front of Nibali and takes out an Astana, Tom was slightly behind Nibali to the right and close to that Astana, Giro over. Nibs teleported. (the overhead shots were not shown on Eurosport live, the moment of the crash floats on the internet from L'Equipe TV). On the far right one Jumbo is leading Roglic and a group is formed with the Movis, FdJ, Bora and MS with Yates.

5.7 km to go - While there are replays of the aftermath of crash, we see a thinner front group with Roglic, UAE, Bora and two Movistar and not far two groups chasing.

4.9 km to go – Again replays of the crash, the chase is close to the front group.
4.8 km to go – Dumoulin is shown alone struggling. (most likely during these shots the second crash took place)
4.7 km to go – The front group is on the screen but no sign of the chasers, one Movistar slows down and looks back presumably after Landa who, as we found out later was caught up in the second crash at the roundabout with Yates and Pozzo.
The rest is known. I think Nibali with Caruso were in fact in a third group and caught up with Yates and the others after the second crash.

That's my reading on it as well.
Apparently Pozzo doesn't have anything broken just bruises, good news for Nibbles.

Very cool bit from last week, interviews with people from Mastromarco, where Nibali lived for a few years as a teenager.

The CanNibali literally predicted Dumoulin's bones would taste delicious

Cool.
