Nibali lost like 2s per km in the flat ITT of Tirreno when he was getting murdered on every climb.

I expect Nibs to be better than that.
Nibali in good shape is a very good time triallist. Not exceptional but can more than hold his own. On average I'd say on the way to San Marino he'd lose maybe a minute to Froome and two to Dumoulin, probably about 1:30-2 to Roglic. I think it would have been better for Nibali had the first TT not had that climb, unless he's somehow in 2017 emilia shape. In a 9km flat TT he's losing no more than 20s, here who knows

Could have been better, at least they will speak the same language.

Looks like Bole and Koren for the flat and hills, Garosio and Agnoli as loyal "we'll give all for the team we can do domestiques" and four experts in the mountains including Nibali himself. We'll see, "could have been better" might nailed it.

No Pernsteiner on board, who had big hopes to join the Giro squad. But there was that little issue on stage 2 in the Tour of the Alps, when Pernsteiner lost sights about how his isolated captain was struggling.

10 sec. San Luca, 1'20'' San Marino to whoever wins those two ITTs. I know, optimistic but we'll see.

Hilly ITTs and what makes them cause big and small gaps is super interesting honestly. I mean I've seen Dumoulin put 3 minutes into GC contenders in one hilly ITT and then I've seen frigging Purito get within 10s of the winner in another.

Same can go for MTTs as well actually.

Bologna, today. It looks like they woke him up a bit too early.

Could have been better, at least they will speak the same language.

I haven't even heard of Andrea Garosio :D . This looks like his weakest GT team in a long time

Don't think so. The Vuelta 2017 was worse in my opinion. The only help he ever had was from Delfino.

He's never won a GT because of a stong team.

Astana was instrumental during the 2016 Giro.

Overall, I think his Bahrein GT teams have always been pretty bad. He does have two top notch domestiques this year, which is an upgrade.

Let's not forget Arenberg stage Tour 2014, with Contador and Froome still in the race it might have been the decisive move. As far as this Giro, also Antonio stepped up big time, might seem odd but I think he will have an important role.

Very happy with Nibali's performance today.
Yes, great for such a short effort, he only lost 4 seconds to Roglic on the flat part.
Him not being the best on this kind of hill in a 13min ITT was to be expected, but he did really well.
The weather should be bad tomorrow and Nibali knows the area from his days riding for Mastromarco (same for Caruso), so it wouldn't surprise me if they'd try to make the stage hard.

Nibali on tuttobiciweb.it after the stage;

It was a very difficult time trial, we knew the climb well, we have faced it many times at the Giro dell'Emilia, so we knew we had to push on the flat and then manage the most difficult part of the test.

My time was pretty good, while Roglic really did have an exceptional time. Dumoulin? Today was not super, but I expect him to be top later.

"We must not get caught up in enthusiasm, it is important to go on day by day. The fact remains that for such a short effort I had good sensations. But I repeat, let's keep our feet on the ground. People on the climb? An exceptional show but I confess that at a certain point I was also afraid because the road became like a funnel. The Traffic Police are doing a great job and will protects us well in this Giro.

Roglic? He will be one of the main opponents but we will not let our guard down against anyone."

Does she always talk in the royal "we"

I must confess I am hoping that the Giro will come down to a stroke of brilliance by Nibali or Landa and a strong combative race against them by Dumoulin

Much and all as Roglic and Yates are great they don't excite me as riders ..sure they attack up hill but they are great climbers and we expect that ...I want the unknown ,the unexpected ...hence my hopes for Nibali
