If so, it's strange that the RAI commentators (who were the worst amongst those they have to choose from) made no mention of it.
I also followed RAI and remember the journalist saying he did not see if he was in the group at the start of la Redoute. By then I could only see a couple of Astana jerseys and none looked like Nibali's from above, but I could be mistaken.

Saw a short interview after the race. Says he's happy he avoided a bad crash. About the Giro: "Sincerely, it's difficult to expect a great result"
Does he really have to try the GC? He's probably better off hunting stages from the start.

Regarding the crash: I'm just happy he didn't break his wrist or something. He's been unlucky enough in his Giro prep for the past couple of seasons.

We know this but he can't get the Giro GC out of his head. Lopez should be the captain but yesterday Nibali said something like "we'll see day by day". Judging by today's reaction he didn't look too optimistic about it, he understood that he's not quite at a required level after the race.

Interesting that Lopez said after his stage victory in the Tour of the Alpes that at the Giro he will have Nibali helping him. Soon thereafter it was mentioned on the RAI commentary that Nibili would be the road captain at the service of Lopez.

Me thinks there is strife a brewing in the team over Vincenzo's exact role in the Giro.

He described his role at the Giro as supporting both Miguel Ángel López and Vincenzo Nibali, though López is designated team leader. "We will go there with Miguel and Vicenzo," Dombrowski said. "And obviously, they're the leaders and my role will be to work for them."

I think they want to keep some pressure off of Lopez zo they're saying Nibali is also teamleader.

I expect a lot of stronger Astana team than in previous months in il Giro. You can already shoe in Lopez victory on Fedaia

Keeping pressure off Lopez by saying he has to share leadership?

Oh boy here we go.

Ok, so this goes here and in the Evenepoel thread.

From today's la Gazzetta dello Sport:

"...that's when, at -29 kms to go, Evenepoel took a look around, and decided that the moment of his rebirth had finally arrived. He thus shot out of the group like "a deer in springtime" and he murdered the race, ultimately catching up to and then dropping with ease on the final climb the frenchman Armirail, the last surviver of a super long breakaway group. The "crime" had a most excellent eyewitness in Vincenzo Nibali: "Yes, I was there. I realized that he was about to attack. Out of instinct I tried to get in his splipstream, but when he stepped on the gas he was going at triple speed. Super impressive, truely a phenomenon. My compliments go out to him. It was beautiful to see him win an important race after everything he's been through."

PS. "Remco is a kid with the heart of gold, as he was first to make his support known to Colbrelli after his heart attack with a message on Twitter."

There were about 30 riders between Evenepoel and Nibali when the Belgian attacked. He was way down to even see him go.

Okay guys which one of you wrote this

Perhaps no sport imparts that lesson more beautifully than cycling, a sport of teamwork and selfless sacrifices, of daring attacks and doomed heroism, where the first person over the line is often the most incidental detail of all. As he approaches what may well be his final Grand Tour on home soil, few riders have embodied that maxim quite like Nibali, a man who for all he has won over the years – all three Grand Tours, 15 stages, two Giri di Lombardia, Milan-San Remo – will be remembered above all for the way he made people feel.

But whether in victory or defeat, people feel things about Nibali. They want to salute and exalt him. They want to sprint up mountains and catch the drops of sweat from his face. They want to believe

Very interesting interview made in Lugano (trophy cabinet included in the background) about his past participations in the Giro. It's in Italian, with some basic Italian skills we can understand (I did).

Some things: Nice details about the Risoul stage in 2016, about Scarponi. No regrets for 2019, hard fought race, could have been better if not for Caruso and Pozzo falling ill at some points during the three weeks. He will never forget the "strade bianche" stage in 2010 when he lost the pink jersey (funny-sad story). Best rival: Contador. Most difficult climb (as in suffering): Zonc, best: Tre Cime. This will be his last Giro? The answer... later.
