Sharknado on Angliru.

Expected result, he may not have won, but Nibali made it a race. He attacked again and again, and showed that he's not the type of rider that will go down without a fight. With that ride Nibali really earns my respect even more. So chapeau Lo Squalo, now onto Florence to do battle for those coveted rainbow stripes. :)

No.
He wasn't the strongest uphill. Horner was.

Nibali had the accelerations but couldn't keep the pace as steady as he did in the Giro. Unfortunately missing those 15/20watts he needed to win the race.
2 GT's in one year is still very hard. But he came awfully close. At least he gave it everything he had which is fantastic to see. Without him the Vuelta would have been boring.

Nobody in the right mind would have predicted the superhuman abilities of a 42 year old man with no background in GTs. Stage 10, Alto Hazzalanas, when Horner attacked, Nibali was watching Valverde and Purito and he responded too late. Thinking back, he lost 43 sec there although if he would have followed I'm sure he would've finished with Horner. But it was too early and nobody cared about Horner. Also, there were no descents that could make a difference in the whole tour. But then again, Horner put in a performance out of this world.

It is better to die fighting, than not to fight at all.

very good effort from nibali. better luck next time.

I think today is going to be bitter. but after the dust has settled, all one needs to ask is "when was the last time this guy did not come in podium ?"
