Last year we had the "pandemic induced stratospheric levels", this Giro seems reasonable for me. The teams are Trek, Astana and Quick Step.

Have no idea what teams would be in for him. I honestly believe Nibali is past the stage where you get him even for hilly classics leadership anymore. There's basically only Lombardia that truly suits him now.

Maybe his training numbers were really good enough to compete, but I'd see it very likely he is a domestique/stage hunter next year, and I'd prefer he join a team where those roles coexist

Zanetti hinted, in the interview I posted earlier, that "the most famous sprinter in the world wants to come to us", I can only think of Sagan? So, Nibali takes a pay cut rejoins with his pal and has some fun at last in some classics while helping Ciconne in his new found role of Trek captain.

The teams are Trek, Astana and Quick Step.

We all know DQS can often revitalise an ailing rider but it only really makes sense if he wants to try another tilt at more one day stuff imo but he might run into conflicts with project boy.

Astana I think is his best bet if he wants to race one or two more GT's competitively because they're always going to try stuff and will support the ambition if you're good enough.

Trek is just more meh imo. It's never felt great and the team isn't cohesive. If he re-ups I'm going to presume it's all done.

Maybe Bernal but the others are normal. Nowhere near Hindley and Tao level on Piancavalo. Caruso was 45 sec. behind Bernal on Giau, unipuerto stage 3 seconds slower than an 11 group of riders led by Scarponi on a multi-multi mountain stage, penultimate climb, last record from 2016.

According to what was already discussed in the thread, the options are Trek, DQS, and Astana.

Repeating his record would really put him in the middle of the peloton? Holy s***, that's bad.

I was wondering about that as well. Who is the most famous sprinter in the world? Probably Sagan, but does Sagan really want to go to Trek? It doesn't seem a great fit to me. I was thinking more of Bennett to be honest, who is also out of contract this year.

Sega di Ala in 2013, Trentino, Nibali estimated 6.05 W/kg for 37'47". Bernal Zoncolan 6.09 W/kg for 38'05".

As far as I saw it was his own teammate Ghebrezgabier who crashed. He needs to run as far as he can from Trek next year, nothing but bad luck and trouble. On top when I'm seeing these reasonable performances compared with last year's wattsfest, I really think he would have had a chance for a podium in proper shape.

Reports of him not being able to move his arm at the finish are not encouraging but on the other hand he did the whole climb in that situation. Remains to be seen tomorrow.

Might have been the scare for the most part, on top of the pain, I think after he knows he's fine he wouldn't quit.
He looked okish too today.
