This stage was harder than the 2017 one before Blockhaus, and apparently the climb was quite windy. Fastest time yesterday was 1'40" slower than Quintana's time in 2017.

Side note: this was Nibali's first top10 in a GT stage since the Stelvio stage in 2020.

Here's some wild rumour:

During the Radiocorsa program aired on Thursday, May 19, Beppe Conti, a well-known journalist specializing in cycling and cyclomarketing, raised a rumour that would be sensational, concerning Vincenzo Nibali.

After the announcement of retirement at the end of the year made by the Shark himself the past few days after the Corsa Rosa stage finish in Messina, Aleksandr Vinokurov, top Kazakh executive of the Astana Qazaqstan Team, the team for which the Sicilian cyclist rides, reportedly begged Nibali to postpone his retirement to Paris-Roubaix 2023.

A surprise move that is reportedly swaying Nibali, who is ready, after the conclusion of the ongoing Giro d'Italia 2022, to make his evaluations. The 1984 class could then postpone the closing of his glorious career by completing the last rides, perhaps after a Milan-San Remo and a "Last Dance" in the iconic velodrome of the transalpine city.
