Make or break?
Today or tomorrow I reckon.

If it's boring moving up in GC then I won't get high hopes for stage win. If he collapses I won't have it either.

The positive I see is GC isn't very set yet so I think GC teams will be rather hesistant to waste the manpower to pull breaks.

Anyways, this is what I wanted to see. The Squalo up there or thereabouts, fighting it out with the best, animating a few stages and shredding a couple of descents. A good GC result would be great, a stage win awesome, but in the end, it's a joy just to watch him ride as he used to again.

Grazie Vincenzo, even if you kept me glued to my seat for three hours just to see f*cking Yates get it in the end (sorry Simon, I usually don't mind you, but today I'm salty).

The legs are there to win a stage but it feels like he needs to decide how he wants to do it. If he's not giving up the ghost on GC he's basically saying he has to either win a heads up or trust he gets given freedom at some point (and that Yates isn't sucking along behind)

Pretty ironic that he would do well in every stage so far except in his own homeland, on a climb he knows incredibly well and that should have suited him on paper. Without those 2 minutes he would be like, let's see, around Pozzo's time? With arguably better prospects if these legs are to last.

Yeah, tbh his current position on GC is awful for a stage win. He could demolish a break, but at 3 minutes will never be allowed into one, and on the other hand he's too far to aim for a podium finish (without some serious voodoo along the way).

There is roads that go downhill so I think Almeida counts as shark meat.

Great ride, but just lacked the kick to get away from the two best climbers in the race. Stayed with him fine, though, even on 20% stuff which has never been his strongest point.

Shades of the 2015 Tour.
A really bad day on the first mtf, but getting better and better afterwards. The only difference is that this time he didn't have to put a loudmouth teammate in his place and show him who's the team leader...

Are we really gonna do this again? Hope that day after day he can climb with the best? Between him and Almeida I nearly gave myself a heart attack just for this one stage, I don't think I can do this for another week.
Yes. We need to go a little higher for the altitude to do funny things.
