Vingegaard vs Pogačar - The Duel

If you consider riders for GT, you can talk about big four, but for me is my proper big 2.

If you talk about riders extraterrestrial of this generation, I see 5. No Pidckock, but he is really good and really complete. People as him or Pedersen or Roglic are really good, and make better this generation, but not extraterrestrials.
If you’re including Wout over Roglic, as much as I like Wout, I’d like to see you post their palmares and make a coherent argument as to how Wout deserves to be there over Roglic.

I immediately switched channels once the commentators on TV2 realized what Jumbo was up to. It was unbearable to listen as per usual, and was especially an example blatant nationalism in 2022. On the stage to Le Lioran, their immediate thoughts where "oh no, what about Jonas now with WVA's crash?" instead of actually being respectable and thinking of what it would have meant to WVA himself who has been incredibly unlucky recently and has his biggest goals 3 weeks from now. Bad showing as usual from TV2 when it comes to WVA.

Bastian Emil on ES had some very balanced takes on what was going on with Van Aert yesterday which I thoroughly enjoyed listening to. He spoke about Van Aert and him "being done with giving up chances" anymore and him being in a more dark mood. I can respect that. He should have won a lot more races, and always seem to be unlucky when he has a chance to win the biggest races (a bit like Roglic's TdF-curse). Wout is giving a lot to the team, and the team should at times also pay him back in manners like yesterday to make it all work.

But was yesterday really the stage to do it, right before two hard mountain stages?

Laporte also work is ass off for the team. Does he get his chances in the tour? Actually thought they could have let Laporte attacked away yesterday instead of just covering attackers.

He does when WVA doesn't sprint (a few times in this race), he did last year, and he won a stage in 2022. So Laporte gets to do his thing as well at times, but obviously less so than Wout. Laporte shouldn't complain at all about his role, and he has been handed a few victories as well after Jumbo and specifically Wout has blown up entire races.

Yeah, he gets his chances in the tour when they present themselves and not by letting the hole team work him, which is completely right since winning the tour is the main goal.

I still don't think it was right to work so hard yesterday for van Aert, just before the pyrenees. What they did on stage 1 I'm more fine with.

But I guess we disagree.

Vinge's trainer, from feltet.dk

And with the level Jonas Vingegaard has shown so far, there is reason to be pleased. But there is room for improvement for the Dane. That is the opinion of Visma's coach, Tim Heemskerk.

"When you look at his numbers, his recovery, and how he has ridden, if everything continues according to plan, there is room for improvement from here. We saw him improve, and we knew he would continue like that," Heemskerk tells Velo.

But even though they expected the Danish Tour winner to quickly reach a high level, he still managed to do something they hadn't seen coming.

"What I didn't expect was that he could win a sprint after such a tough day and on Pogacar's terrain. It was a great victory, not only for the stage or this Tour but also with a view to the coming years," he believes.

The stage win has only made Heemskerk believe even more in another Danish Tour victory.

"The sprint showed that he can win the Tour. Being able to develop that power after a day with so much fatigue and elevation change is a crucial test for these riders. It's a sign of the endurance necessary to win a Grand Tour," the coach explains.

Will Vingegaard attack on his own accord or wait to counter attack?

It feels like he needs to be proactive.

Unbeliavable how this guys think they know more about Vingegaard than is own coach. Even a slovenian psyotherapist thinks he knows the reality around Vingegaard. Maybe it can be scaring for them, but no, of course Vingegaard wasn't in peak shape, not even in stage 11.
His point about Vingegaard's injuiries not being as bad as they were portrayed is obviously made up and a really stupid and disrespectful thing to say.

But his other point about the training numbers being better than last year should be readily verifiable and someething quite a few others have said. So I'm keen to understand exactly what you mean by saying "of course" he's not in peak shape?
