After another boring, crashed-fill stage during the opening week of another boring, oppressive Tour de France, I wish more than ever that Vino was still competing on the bike and not content just to run the Astana team like a moderately effective blonde, ethnic Russian mob boss.

He took part in the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii yesterday and did a really good time of 9 hours and something overall, only about an hour after the best. He has the 12th best overall time in the cycling part.

Vino still has it! He won gold in the world championships Gran Fondo in Glasgow, age category 50-54:

Alexandre Vinokourov pakt wereldtitel in granfondo op het WK wielrennen, net als drie Belgen

Vinokourov, de voormalig olympisch kampioen op de weg en manager bij Astana, won in Schotland de gouden medaille op de granfondo. Ook Sylvan Adams, de eigenaar van Israel-Premier Tech, en enkele Belgen gingen met een wereldtitel naar huis.
