After a long hard day at work this thread really makes me smile. It's nice to know I'm not the only psychotic madman who loves vino. I hope he comes back next year as the gc man for astana. as do all of you.

what i like about vino that he lives a full life and we never hear him whine (yes, for me whining is one of the ugliest traits in a grownup man).

vino is a national hero in his country.

but he does not fly back to his hotel in a personal heli, does not walk around in the cocoon of personal guards, does not check into single occupancy lofts after races (unlike a certain texas)...

vino is what you see in the pic - former doper, impulsive, cagey, intelligent, generous dad, family man and a great rider.

I need to say that Vino has done a lot for my riding. Although most often I ride by myself, it is Vino that made me ensure that as soon as I see another rider (or a slower moving car, motorcycle or scooter) on the road, I start to attack and keep on attacking untill I overtake and lose the other rider.

And for that I thank him

:p

After his tour performances I motorpace behind bullet trains dragging Buffalo skulls benind my lanced chest.

I couldn't agree more.

I hate to see this thread fall off the back. I will miss it when it disappears entirely. :)

WooHooo!

Just booked my flight and secured VIP passes to the Chiahuahua Criterium.

My friend is in the organization and I get to party with the Kazakh slaughterhouse.

My friend Rodolfo Massi (Italian Pro and polka dot jersey wearer) and I partied with him at the Giro. Rodolfo will be coming over for this as well from Italy. From there, we will do a stage race in Jalisco.

I will take lots of pictures.

I think that girl with the towel in the centre near the hut can tell a few stories about Vino and his gun.

Along with other girls we don't see but they left their towels on the table and are now prancing around the forest without them.

extremely interesting interview with vino's wife, svetlana.
yes we try but we'll never how much this guy loves his sport, never.my mind was pretty blown when i saw this:

at the birth of their twins and after the crash in tour de suisse which stopped him going in le tour(2004):

But there was a fall in the Tour de Suisse and the state of health Sasha could not go on tour. I remember he was very upset about this. And I reassured him: "Come on, relax, but you will see the birth of sons! You've got ten more Tour de France in front, and the ten sons you will not. It's such a blessing to attend this miracle. "But then he had not yet realized the importance of this miracle. He was present at my birth, but was mentally in the Tour de France, tearing all, ie was at his business.

Sort of a funny google translation in the parents' interview about his wife:

Fighting girlfriend Vinokourov... ..rear Vinokourov! Tell us a little about the Light - the wife of Alexander?

- Ss: Oh, it have very good! House, children - wherever she order. By Sasha's arrival - she is always ready. Reliable rear!

Actually it's just a russian expression meaning "reliable rear guard" as in if husband is the one on "the front", wife is the one keeping the house from falling apart while he's gone.

But i lol'd on this piece of machine translation too. :D

By the way i just came from presentation with Astana team officials, Vino, Alberto and Eddy Merkcx.

Pretty cool.

Back in ancient times when I was an undergraduate studying languages there was a "true story" about computer translation. Some University designed a program to translate. They translated "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." from English into Russian. Then they translated it from Russian back into English and the result was, "The wine is good, but the meat is bad."

A definition of poetry is "The part that gets lost in translation."

Alberto said that "winning three GTs in one year" wasn't really his idea (Riis or some one from Saxo team made that up) and he doesn't think it's physically possible to do as of now. But competing in all three -- he will definitely be trying to do that. For now, in 2011 he will be riding Tour-Vuelta.

Vino and team officials were saying Astana's big aims for 2011 are overall win in Giro and team classification in TDF.

And Vino said next year should his last and after that he will be DS for Astana.

Nothing really new. But seeing those guys in reality was great for sure!
