*** sake eenkorn you clown
Dainese actually did quite a good sprint in the end from a long way back, but he's perfectly positioned at 1k and then eenkorn just lets 10-15 riders past and gets dainese stuck behind him , completely boxed, going into that corner at 400m. Cort played the final well.

Incredibly embarrassing effort by Dainese, Hobbs and especially Vernon for being the sole out-and-out sprinters here. Losing to Isidore and Busatto, really?

Their chances ended by the fact they were all single file behind an NSN guy who first lost the wheel and then pulled over right in front of Vernon and slowed everyone down further. Godon then dragged them close but it was too late really. It's an uphill sprint so the dynamics are all different

Some rider, I don't which, really eased causing a big gap to those guys behind him.

Staying out of that kind of trouble is a part of being a sprinter.

But it's not unreasonable for Vernon to follow his teammate into the final 400m. If your teammate then creates a 20m gap that's quite hard to rectify.

He wasn't even that far back, think he was 6th wheel behind Busatto and then the NSN teammate. It's not great from Vernon but it isn't awful.

Danish TV2 reporting what with 5-6K to go Cort had given up, positioned at the back of the peloton after the groups got back together, and said so on the radio.

Then Skaarseth shouted at him to suck it up and take his wheel - lead him past 100+ riders to the front of the peloton and handed him off in Charmig's wheel with 1K to go :p

Edit:

Cort said in his exit interview that it was from 3K to 1.5K to go, which makes Skaarseth's performance even wilder

Gualdi finished 5th, which is a very promising result in such a field.
Most of the others you mention are likely riding as domestiques so I would expect them to let go once their job is done.
If you check again you'll see I obviously wrote Gaudu and nothing else...;)
