Volta ao Algarve em Bicicleta 2020, Portugal, February 19 - February 23

Page 6 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.

Van der Poel: No real goals in Algarve. Especially not the ITT, that's been too long since he did that. It's a bit too early, he just wants to get better for Omloop. Will ride for the team, there is no pressure.

Van Avermaet: Amazed at the quality of the startlist. Wants to show/check his form but knows that might be difficult against the lighter guys. Improve towards spring classics.

Evenepoel: Clearly motivated and wants to get the best possible result. Says it won't be easy with the other climbers here.

lol, Evenepoel's reaction (see video) when asked "You're not here to win, per se?".

MvdP riding without any pressure.... So he's probably going to win 4 stages

32 to go, break caught. Strong pace with Deceuninck-Quickstep in front.

Nervous approach to the finale. Lots of big names paying attention on the front and taking part in small moves.

Viviani had to start from too far and his backwheel slipped during his effort, but Jakobsen was the strongest anyway.

Quite the stage so early in the season. Really looking forward to how certain riders will perform. Remco in particular.

Viviani’s days as a top tier sprinter were numbered the very second he put pen to paper to leave DQS. To make things even worse, he has the two worst lead outs a man can think of.

I mean, leaving QS will make your leadout worse no matter where you end up, but why did he go to Cofidis of all places? To ride with his Brother? Money? Certainly not for the chance of winning a lot of races.

Viviani was never a top sprinter away from EQS and while there still got beaten plenty by better sprinters. I do suspect his offers weren't all that great and Cofidis simply offered the most.
