Looked like there was a lot of wind. As for Nairoman, just because he looked effortless when following Bernal it doesn't mean he had the reserves to attack.
Indeed. Portraying Quintana as a wheelsucker is one of the most ridiculous memes in this forum. The guy went on a 50km attack only a couple of weeks ago. It's clear he's on the limit following Bernal here; not all riders gurn like Dumoulin or Martin when they are about to drop.
It's pretty much one of the truest memes on this forum.

So Bernal still a bit naive.

Surely there is something wrong with that GC? Bernal was ahed of Martin after stage 2.

It's not. Firstly, because anyone who uses the term 'wheelsucker' in reference to a cyclist's tactics, reveals themselves to be completely clueless about bike racing.

Secondly, because Quintana has won 37 races in his career without being able to sprint or TT. Suggesting he actually attacks quite a lot.

And thirdly, Quintana has gone on a 50km+ solo attack in major races pretty much every season of his career.

It's a tired old meme with no basis in reality.

For me a wheelsucker is someone who doesn't want to take turns in a group. Just because someone attacks doesn't mean he isn't a wheelsucker

On the flat perhaps it is more of a pertinent label, but on a climb, the term 'wheelsucker' is ridiculous. When climbing, it's not wheelsucking to just hold someone's wheel because you are on the limit.

It would be crazy to take turns with someone who you know is stronger than you and will just attack the moment when you are at your weakest.

Quintana never works in any group where riders are equally strong or close in GC. Sometimes you attack because it's the default decision, which is most of Quintana attacks.

I don't really remember any Quintana attack with a lot of negative implied odds, except maybe for Oropa where he went a little early but he really just got caught out by Dumoulin there.

Except that in taking turns they might have had the finish to themselves instead of a five up sprint.

QFT, it was in his interest to contribute, he just hung around like a bad smell.

If Quintana had started working hard enough to try to keep Yates away, Bernal would have attacked and dropped him like a stone.
