Williams rode a great stage and probably the only one with the speed to beat Pog at the line but he attacked and he chased and he was bushed at the end

But they didn't. There were 1.5 good climbers in this race who lived up to their billing (Landa/Bernal). Landa merely rode at the level we've seen since...2014? Bernal is a bit of an exception because of his injury.

Where was GC Kuss? Where was Uijt-whatever? Almeida? Vlasov? Mas? Lenny? Yeah, they all had their moments, but I expected a jump in form from at least one of them. They were dropping 3 minutes to Pog on stages that frankly weren't that hard (maybe stage 6 but at least the weather was pretty decent).

I think this is true for every commentator though that they'll be biased in favour of their fellow country riders? It's part of how commenting works in every sport I think. It's just that English happens to be an international language and many listens to it so it's going to be obvious for more people.

Same for my country. It's funny, but I think the majority of viewers would be really mad if they didn't do it. And something has to keep new viewers when they first tune in

Yeah, considering the huge discrepancy between the number of people who actually follow cycling and the massive casual TDF audience in Norway, this is very understandable and the broadcaster wouldn't really be doing their job if they didn't put a big focus on Hushovd, EBH etc. It might have tapered off a bit now, but especially in the 2010s the Norwegian TDF audience was massive. And most of them didn't know that Paris-Roubaix or Giro d'Italia even existed.

Races like the Volta a Catalunya, however, are usually only watched by hardcore cycling fans, so being a partisan commentator doesn't really make sense there. But I don't think the British Eurosport guys are that bad when it comes to this, really. I think it's just easier for them to identify riders they know well, and talk about those guys.
