Third or fourth time we've heard something similar already from race directors this season. Some of the riders just want to bite the hand that feeds them.I just heard the director of the race and He blamed some of the riders. He said that in today's world if only a handful don't want to race then the race is ruined. He said that the riders did not meet the other part of the bargain of the negotiations. He had responsibilities with the TV and the businesses and if only a few idiots don't want to race then the UCI and and other people get scare that is something happens then it becomes a problem.
The fact that the helicopter was perfectly functioning tells you that they could race the 2 circuits perfectly. Wtf. They need to discuss this in more detail because there was a lot of confusion for only a few idiots.

Maybe not riding 60mm rims in strong wind is an alternative to what he's talking about?
I guess we can say goodbye to ever seeing a single race in the Netherlands again. It's sunny and the trees are not moving at all, where exactly is the dangerous weather?
While that's altogether possible, it's also what a race organizer would say to cover their own behind.I just heard the director of the race and He blamed some of the riders. I think we also would need enough riders who would say "*** it" and ride off when the peloton goes into protest/stand up strike mode. Let them them win a time or two and the protests will decrease. But it can't just be one or two rebels riding off, cause they will just get blackballed. If the commissaires give the organisers a clear mandate and judge the parcours safe to race, they should totally disregard the riders. Throw potential saboteurs out of the race.
In a relegation season, I wouldn't worry about that.I think we also would need enough riders who would say "f*ck it" and ride off when the peloton goes into protest/stand up strike mode. Let them them win a time or two and the protests will decrease. But it can't just be one or two rebels riding off, cause they will just get blackballed.
Who is to blame if crash happens? If the commissaires give the organisers a clear mandate and judge the parcours safe to race, they should totally disregard the riders. Throw potential saboteurs out of the race.
The problem is that said race director is guaranteed to see a depleted field the year after, unless it’s at the Tour. It’s a total power asymmetry. It's really about time a race director puts his foot down and just DQs a fuckton of riders who don't wanna do their job.
I think that depends on the specific situation. If they are "forced" to ride in a situation that is perfectly safe, I don't think that will have any repercussions. The problem is that said race director is guaranteed to see a depleted field the year after, unless it’s at the Tour. I think you underestimate the ability of quite a few riders/teams to be petulantly vindictive.I think that depends on the specific situation. If they are "forced" to ride in a situation that is perfectly safe, I don't think that will have any repercussions.
I'm not surprised by his saluteAt this moment, I thought he would do a Roman salute like the French revolutionaries.
And I'm guessing it might just be a few riders complaining loudly and the others simply go along . . .I just so often get the feeling that riders and teams are desperate to leave themselves without a job by killing the sport. It's mad, that it somehow isn't working.
One or two teams may do that (like QS in Paris-Tours), but that makes it easier to win for other teams, so they will maybe send a stronger team. Many teams won't be able to coordinate if the demands are clearly unreasonable.I think you underestimate the ability of quite a few riders/teams to be petulantly vindictive.
So if I am a marginal rider, new director, regional race official, race promoter and Roglic, Ayuso, Bora, UAE say it's too dangerous in their opinion, you go against them why? As a rider from pro conti squad you step up and say " DQ these sissies I will race, I am not afraid!! " ok..It's really about time a race director puts his foot down and just DQs a fuckton of riders who don't wanna do their job.

If riders got into a back and forth with race director and said no to Sunday, the controversy and loss of race days would be disastrous to another level.. Super risky to take on a mob..
They have a transfer to Barcelona and an early start tomorrow, so if they would race the 60 km lap, they would finish to late.Do we even know what happened exactly? Or are we just going to assume the names of the 'bad guys' who wanted to be party poopers and not race? It seems like we don't exactly have the full picture of who wanted or what - or who agreed to what.
I do know from a 'spectator standpoint' and a sport standpoint that having the entire peloton ride the first 60km neutralized then riding the same 60km loop racing... without time bonis, would be total nonsense.
So if some riders went and told the race directors they wanted to finish right there and then at the end of the first lap, I don't see much reason to argue against their logic.
