Flop is a bit too much I think. He had a very rough start of the Vuelta with crashes. After that he has put a decent TT so maybe he can put a decent break somewhere until Madrid. My advice to him would be: stick to Moncoutie's wheel if you want to get in the break.

Career wise, I think for now Machado should be just playing a domestique role in GT's and lead on 1-week stage races. Actually I think Saxo Bank would be a perfect fit for him: he could lead in a lot of small stage races and then learn from the best if he still has any hopes of being a GT rider.

Another thing that is a bit annoying about Machado is his lack of tactical sense: sometimes he's invisible just because he can't choose the right break (today is the perfect example).

His old solution, back in his Boavista days, was to be in EVERY break. The guy's first purchase when he got into cycling was The Alexander Vinokourov guide to Road Cycling Tactics and Planning. Unfortunately Johan Bruyneel confiscated that in March 2010 after Tiago overshadowed Levi in two consecutive races.

Machado is such a flop. . . . constantly getting chances from bryuennel only to fail miserably everytime. i am surprised he hasn't been reduced to a domestic role by now.

Rui Costa is about a million times better then machado, is not even possible to argue otherwise.

AC is such a massive talent that he barely needed any1 to help him develop and he was already an amazing young rider in 05 and 06. all the hog had to do was to let him ride the tour

That was probably too much, that guy attacked everywhere specially when he shouldn't. Now he's turning into a boring rider that waits for the TT which is concercing because his TT has been on a down trend this past months.
And I have to disagree with the Vino part: Machado rarely profited from his agressive style, Vinokourov on the other hand....

That's annoying has well. I remember when he lost Algarve to Contador a couple of years ago (2010 I think) and he was like: "I have nothing to be ashamed, I lost to the 2nd best rider in the world because the best is Armstrong". I was like, who the f*** asked you about Armstrong?
