I don't know what exactly Astana is doing but considering they still have their whole team in front I don't think they are really trying to make the race hard. I'd say this could even be an indication for Lopez not feeling very well
Yeah, could be. Could be they just wanted the break within striking distance. If he's bad you don't really want to work to gift bonifications to your competitors

Pace should pick up toward the bottom of the Covadonga, so that will likely take off another minute for the breakaway

Keeping the break in check for a possible stage win, which Mitchelton didn't seem particularly interested in.

I like what Astana is doing, but I don't think that Lopez can beat Quintana today.
It would be disgusiting if MAL would be the third with the double podium at GT in 2018.
Why? In what way would he not have earned it?

Some people forget he’s still a young rider I guess. What do they expect? Beating Quintana, Froome, Dumoulin already... etc? Lol. Let him play and learn.
OMG, yesterday he could win! Just work with Quintana and finally attack him! From ca. 1.5-2km which not suits too much to Yates.
And please remember his games with Carapaz last Giro. Disguisting.

That might serve as criticism of him for not finishing higher than he did, but making the podium is achieved by finishing ahead of nearly all the field. Who will he have finished ahead of undeservedly?

Mountains classification is gaining in contenders by every pass. The Pyrenees are going to be interesting in several ways.
Beautiful area, but you can never be sure about the weather, it appears.

I missed something but what happened to Mate? Injured in someway. Mr. Breakway De Gendt, King and Mollema closing him on the KOM jersey.
