Froome quite a annoying rider the last year. Constantly waiting too much to give all during a climb, today again.

for someone who says he is 1.5kg heavier and lost little weight that he would like to have.. that is a sharp performance by him. what's that.. 7km attacked or something? basso did proof very good signing.. after all letting go roche isn't such a bad thing. Froomey isn't that bad either. Tour will be epic!

Crazy performance from Contador and big blow for Froome so early in the season. If Froome doesn't step up his game Contador can actually make the double this year.

Of course Froome will up his game, it's Feb not July, same for Alberto of course. Froome has already proved several times over the last year he isn't mentally weak so this won't affect him. He got beat by the better guy today, onto the next round.

Given the season goals I expected an inverse display of form from the top duo.
No deceiving here, I have to admit.

Not sure what you mean? Contador's aiming for Giro but Froome doesn't have to peak til Tour if all else equal, it's not that unexpected.

Recorded the finale.

It looks like Contador was soft pedaling for the last 300 metres. Why would he that? :D Doesn't every second count in psychological war?

Can think of at least two other riders who'd take exception to that...

Didn't see any of it. However, if Froome was able to contain his losses to just 19 sec., then he made his effort very well. Contador, to the contrary, evidently was not able to hold the wattage over the haul.

au contraire! after basso/contador gapped the field on the short descent , contador made his move, then rode his pace. froome rode his pace - just did not crank up his pace until way later in climb. contador held his wattage, maybe even eased up when he knew he had it in the bag. also, the flattish final 500m favor froome.

i think both contador and froome did a-ok today. and tomorrow is another day!F

Faster than Nibali and all others (except Horner) in 2013.

Are you serious? Not faster than Horner? We are early in the season, but the idea of Horner would have been able to beat the dueling giants, Contador and Froome is just crazy.

The panache of the the man is incredible...oh 7km, here I go, come and catch me :D Very credible performance by Froome, there is just no quit in that one. Bodes well for some grand battles and viewing for us this season.

Meanwhile Alberto rocks on, he will be deadly this season!
