Exactly. Wiggins has always been a rider who limits losses in the mountains and makes up time in the TT. Cobo has always been a climber who does a decent TT. Wiggins beats cobo in TT, Cobo beats wiggins in mountains. since this is a mountainous Vuelta = Cobo Wins! :)
It is far from over.

Hi guys,
I'm an Italian user and I'm fan of "lo Squalo dello Stretto" also because I live in the same city (Messina)
I'm really disappointment of the débacle of the Shark in this Vuelta, but I think the Liquigas have many faults this year specially in the preparation...
Now I would like to show you some of my calculations:
Cobo climbed the last 7km of Angliru in 28'19'' and he marked the third best time of ever then Heras (2000-2002)
The Vam, calculate in 6.3km from 705m to 1575m of altitude, is ca 1900m/h
He generated approximately 430W with 6.3W/Kg
I says only one word "AMAZING"...

PS I'm sorry for my bad English :(

Thx for that. The English was fine as well.

Lo squalo rode to much this year and is run out gas at Vuelta. Anyway he wasted energy with Purito at first week and know both are out contention.

Nibali is young and is gonna improve, his next natural steep hace to be a Giro win and maybe a double with Vuelta but he give up February and March as months to compite.

I hope that he'll improve in the ascent next year, he can win the Giro 2012 with good preparation...
he will never be like Contador but he is the best descender good cronoman and in the climbs he can defend...

Nibali himself says the Giro has nothing to do with him being worse than normal.

He thinks he rode to little races in preparation of the Vuelta with only Poland and Trofeo Melinda

This year he started later with the races, the first only in the middle of February...

There was no first division football this weekend because the national team is playing a Euro Cup qualifying match this week. Cobo's picture would have been passport size under normal circumstances.

Isn't this the same as saying that he's worse than normal?
Am I saying that? Is Nibali saying that?

Please read again

He's just saying, and I'm just forwarding that, that the Giro 2011 is not the cause of that. But the lack of racing before the Vuelta.

I'm not, and Nibali's not, argueing the fact that he is worse than normal.
:double facepalm:

Sometimes I really have the feeling you are searching things that aren't there or you read too fast

Don't downplay the achievment. From where I come from, Cristiano Ronaldo's night out would have made first page and cycling would be passport size.;)

in the puppet team (sky) win who they choose.. it's like formule one.... the english teams are always the same thing even in differents sports...

the sky team lost the vuelta when choosed wiggles (a legitime britain) to be the leader... when the other, more strong, "african-english" was put like a slave...

Now they will cry while the "dirty-spaniard" steals the vuelta from the nobre-englishman

Go cobo!!!
well said, idiots at the steering wheel over at sky. froome was scrwed out of a more possible vuelta win than wiggins. if I was froome I would leave for sure.

i know this of little interest to most but still i would like to point it out if you guys don't mind

machado had a mechanical at the end of the cordal descent when he was just meters away from the main group that had split on the descent yet he still climbed 5 minutes faster then brajkovic who was clearly trying, and it doesn't make the 5 minutes down he finished all that bad tbh. if hadn't been ordered to wait for zubeldia yesterday he would be well inside the top 20 today.

maybe there is still hope for machado . . .

machado is 26 and I like him a lot but this year he's proven to not be gt material. too inconsistant and bit overrated as a climber after his strong showings in spring. but those weren't real long and high mountains we saw more in giro and vuelta or even tour of austria

Only because he says so it doesn't mean he's right.
Just check where the others who rode the Giro stands in the GC (some are nowhere to be found, actually) and you'll get an answer. Only consistent rider so far has been Menchov, who was mediocre at best in the Giro.

On a side note, Nibali wasn't at Melinda this year. He skipped it. He rode Tre Valli Varesine and Poland. Last year he didn't do much more actually.

nibali can and will never win a giro unless scarponi and rujano crash or something. this year in giro nibali was at his strongest and got exposed, especially in mountains. the man is very limited for a gt rider and has one huge weapon, consistancy, he has another skil called luck but still you also need capabilities to win a gt. last years vuelta win was a fluke. I mean come on he beat mosquera and peter velits.

Machado has still a lot to learn. If he can improve on his weaknesses, I don't see why he can't top 10 on a GT, eventually. (I also don't think the steep/irregular stuff he faced on Vuelta and Giro are the most suitable to his style, but then at the Tour we have more people fighting for that spot, so...). You could see it coming really. Back in Portugal he would crack on a mountain stage , preferably Torre and loose his hopes for the win. But as a fan I would give him an excuse. Maybe it's because he's young, maybe because it's because he's attacking all season. Well...

Doens't make him less of a quality rider though. I just like him more as a rider on one week races with relatively hard courses. There he attacks. Here he just follows.
