During the first week he was saying he might finish the Vuelta because there's an extra week before the WC compared to other years, and now he says he'll get better training solo. Honestly this doesn't look good for Spain's chances, but then in 1999 he won having raced, what, 15 days during the whole season?

He didn't break anything but he got 19 stitches on his arms and it's doubtful whether he'll manage to end the stage.

Maybe Uran is ok and they think he can win or at least place in the first few? Its also possible they are worried about the team classification. Lotto have two up front and are 12 minutes down on Caisse, the current leaders. Seems a bit early to start worrying about that as the leaders will lose lots of time on the final climb.

Yeah, Liquigas wouldnt let anything go until about km 70 so it was high speed all the way.
