Vuelta a España 2020: Stage 3 (Lodosa - La Laguna Negra-Vinuesa, 166.1 km)

I'm not really surprised that they had to change the stage from the Tourmalet to Formigal. Just glad they were able to change it at this point. Although I suspect they have plan B and likely plan C for some stages.

Can someone please teach Enric Mas how to sprint? He doesn't have to be good enough to win a sprint, but he needs to be good enough to not continually lose time.

Unfortunately many of these classes are oversubscribed. However placements still remain on the following courses:
  • Sprinting and you: optimal sprint placement seminar with Andre Greipel
  • Sprinting geometry: straight line sprinting, its advantages and benefits, a discussion chaired by Professor Djamolidine Abdoujaparov
  • Basic sprint techniques and strategies: beginner class with Elisa Longo Borghini
  • Flat stage technique for the climbing specialist 101: effort management and course design roundtable chaired by Sepp Kuss

Of this group we need to enroll him in:
Sprinting and you: Optimal sprint placement semicar with Andre Griepel
Basic Sprint techniques and strategies: beginner class with Elisa Longo Borghini

Those two seem to be likely very helpful for Mas. He really needs to learn placement first.

Of course he'll also need a class in sprinting at the top of a climb as well. Although maybe he can get a one on one class with Valverde for that one?

The highly respected professor Porte also noted there's a few spots open for his 'losing infinite time and crashing for no good reason in GTs'-course. I might consider signing up for that myself.

I dont think he needs to learn sprinting. What he needs is learn about attacking with cojones without looking behind.

I wouldn't enroll him in these courses if you want what's best for him.

Ah yes, he originally got that role as a substitute lecturer when Professor Menchov had to take some time out, I believe, possibly researching his paper on the facial expressions of a TV personality.

One could add:
  • Sprint victory celebration timing, with Julian Alaphilippe
  • And, only for the advanced student: how to finish 7th in a 3-man sprint, with Domenico Pozzovivo

And when is supposed Carapaz or Mas to take time on Roglic? ITT? There are only 4 stages apart from that one where they can try break him and neither of them is hard enough imo.

Posted at the beginning that the first week would be raced hard and would not be breakaway days and I have proven to be correct - Change to stage 6 make this a less focused GC day and is a chance for a breakaway.

French authorities said the race couldn't cross the border into France, they never said they couldn't bring Tourmalet to Spain!

In all seriousness, there is a climb in Spain with a profile that is almost an exact copy of the Tourmalet. And it's only 800km to the south, down in Granada...

Fantastic news. From an overhyped, oversaturated climb which never delivers what it should to a terrible climb that always delivers more than it ought to.

Kinda hoped that since the Aramón resorts were paying we'd get Cerler to see if we're really back in the 90s, but this will do. We get way too much of the Tourmalet in French races, without it poisoning Spanish ones too.

In before Toby explains their love for the Tourmalet and that this is reason #485 why I am a terrible human being ;)

When I saw the Giro cancellation news I joked that the Vuelta was going to substitute the Tourmalet with Cerler. Close enough...
