Everyone scared again, I honestly don't get why there aren't 20 guys in the break every first mountain stage in a GT because it wil succeed 99% of the times.

So who are the best climbers in the break? Bayer, Elissonde, Dombrowski? Imagine 21 year old Tobias Bayer winning the stage and getting leaders jersey for Alpecin.

On one hand I agree with you, but on the other I believe if the break consisted of 20 riders Jumbo wouldn't let it go or would keep it in check.

Unless someone else comes to the front to increase the pace, break has the stage.

Jumbo are rightfully not bothered on keeping the jersey but might be worth Ineos or Bahrain throwing someone like Puccio or Tratnik to increase the pace a bit as it's good for them if Jumbo have to defend the jersey.

All those ES predictions are going to be wrong today. JV don't want defend the jersey, and INEOS want to take the bonus seconds away from Roglic

The breakaway looks good for the stage at the moment.
... and for a few days of the jersey duties.

Landa said that he'd need another couple of days to get in shape, and Ineos is probably worried of getting outsprinted by Roglic in the end. I'd think it needs Movistar or DSM (Badet apparently has targeted this stage) to prevent the breakaway from staying clear.

Its clear that JV are deliberately looking rid of the jersey. There are now 2 races on today, the stage is for the breakaway with some good riders there.

I hope that Roglic will try to dominate this Vuelta as hard as possible. Winning as many stages as he can, as many jerseys as he can. And keep the leaders jersey from start till finish. That would be awesome!
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem likely at the moment that his third Vuelta win in a row will be like Rominger's third Vuelta win in a row in 1994.

San Lorenzo in stage 18 is a bit harder, too, but yes... 3rd hardest of the climbs that matter.
Velefique is not easier.

Like, I don't think it would be a good idea to give Kenny Elissonde a 10-minute lead on GC.

Assuming they keep it to sub 9 mins by the time the climbing starts again, they can probably drop that to 6 mins by the finish. Can probably keep the jersey to stage 9 I'd say if they take that sort of gap.

The way Alpecin is going this year, I wouldn't be surprised if Bayer gets the jersey and keeps it for like 2 weeks.
