The real tragedy here is Ajuso is going to get a podium at this vuelta , at 19. When I was 19 (not even so long ago) I was peeing in my sink in my room at the university because I was too lazy to go to the shared bathroom before bed.

And this is what cycling is becoming, find the next hypergifted teenager, give him millions, make him anorexic and give him Inigo San Millan or someother top coach, and prosper. There is less flair in the sport anymore , and Roglic have that flair

Anyway for me what happened on the Tour for Roglic was much more of a tragedy than this Vuelta

Dear maestro, if you are truely born in 99, I am not allowing you to complain about what cycling is becoming today. :smirkcat:

Honestly, there's no Asterisk because a competitor crashed out, that happens all the time and is part of a GT.
It's still not great for the race, and I felt it yesterday as the attack was surprisingly good and it would have been fun had it brought some success, also it's now the second GT this season Roglic crashes out (again), so even my stony heart feels it a bit.
Nonetheless, let's be real, it's very unlikely he would have taken 1,30 on Evenepoel in the coming days anyway.

If Remco wouldn't cheat with "flat tyre" and Roglič wouldn't crash, the difference would already be minimal.

There's no asterisk. Staying upright and finishing a race is as much a part of winning as anything else. People have knocked Remco in the past for not being able to do this, same applies to Roglic.

Agreed.
In some cases it’s fair to bemoan the bad luck endured by a rider where they’re taken out of the race by another rider or something completely out of their control. But Roglic has got nobody to blame but himself here, as sad as it is for him and for the spectacle of the race. He was trying to close Remco’s huge time advantage, went too deep in doing so and lost concentration and paid the price - that doesn’t diminish Remco’s (impending) win, if anything it confirms how dominant Remco has been.

Remco was "dominant" over "always mediocre and second" Mas, couple unknowns and injured/not prepared Roglič. The moment Roglič got some km in his legs, he became better then Remco and looked dominant over him in the last stage where he would take back huge time on Remco and probably stomped all over him in the next days. There was no dominant Remco left already in week 2 any way.

That kind of Remco has no chance against healthy Roglič and NO chance against Vinge/Pog. But he's very young and has all the time to improve.

So Primoz is out making the GC race less interesting (unless Maas does something extraordinary). Hopefully it's not serious and he recovers soon.

I'd say it will be interesting as there are a few riders trying to get on the podium and that might change the dynamics of the race. Mas might follow the inevitable Superman attacks, the UAE duo can play some cards, Ineos also. All these might put Remco in difficulty.

Thought there was a great chance for Roglic to put it up to Remco too over the next few days. Seemed to be getting stronger as Remco was getting weaker.

Disaster for the race.

Remco got weaker only because of his own crash.

while being sad that Rog cannot further compete, let’s still keep hold of the facts. Without Remco’s fall this would likely not be close even with Rog.

having said that, the loss of Rog does not change Remco’s chances much. They always hinged on a third week collapse…

which could still happen,

It seems like barring some 2015 type shenanigans the race is now settled; having been 2nd here twice before Mas might have been inclined to risk a bit more if the team weren't so dependent on him bringing the points home that they can't really afford to risk him hitting the wall and dropping several places by taking high risk low reward speculative chances on the stages to come. They just got effectively a free boost of 105 UCI points with Rogla withdrawing if they just take it home from here, I suspect that unless Evenepoel has a completely unexpected collapse à la Yates in 2018, Mas might have a bit of a dart to see if he can distance Remco on the Puerto de la Morcuera, but otherwise it's likely that Remco has more than enough to hold on given the lack of anything that you'd say is an obvious platform to get rid of him in the stages to come.
