Remco has a 2min lead ........ why is he sitting up???

Surely he'd be able to give it a go for the stage???

Remco will initiate a breakaway. JV leading the bunch and keep Remco's breakway within three minutes. When the breakaway arrives at the foot of Angliru, Remco does what he's best at, TT up the ascent.
When the bunch arrives at the ascent of Angliru, Almeida, Soler and Ayuso try attacking the three bees. JV easily stay on their wheels. The JV lead peloton increasing the speed and gains on Remco. Jonas attacks at 5 k and soon he's on Remcos wheel. Jonas moves up on Remcos left side and say, "Remco, you are not a GC threat".
Jonas attacks Remco and instantly drops him.
Jonas takes the stage and the Red Jersey.
Still possible

German commentators are basically acting like this is a done deal for Evenepoel. I'm not entirely sure I agree but it's honestly insane this is even a reasonable opinion about a solo rider with two climbs, one of which is the Angliru, still to come.

How is it now?

Most likely, Remco felt on top of the Cordal that he didn't have the energy to keep going until the end.
Who knows the little break he allowed himself has given him some new energy to regain composure, but not having a bidon is not helping any late resurrection plan.

Maybe his DS told him the most combative rider award was still undecided so he had to go for a bit longer :D
