After 11 years of wondering why Soupe doesn't sprint anymore he actually gets the grand tour victory I always thought he was capable of.

Neither of these crashes had much to do with the route.

The crash that took down down Arensman looked like a touch of wheels by the last rider in the Alpecin train. On a straight section of the road. Wha could you do as a race organization to avoid that—insist that teammates leave a bigger gap between each other in a paceline?

This run in was so dangerous....more so than others if that's possible? The constant road expansion from 1 lane to 2 lanes then opening to 4+ lanes contributed to some seriously stupid pack movement. GC riders were forced to work back up and fortunately Kuss came through relatively unscathed. They could easily have controlled the wider areas to 2 lanes to maintain a higher, consistent tempo and saved a few bodies.

Well, except from an aerodynamic perspective. Dave Brailsford must be having a seizure at him winning a sprint with that at the same time that Ineos' marginal gains have turned to major losses.

In his interview Groves said the course wasn't bad, the riders were. Said it happens when everyone wants to win.

Super win for Soupe but I was very surprised at just how muted his celebrations were given that his palmares is that of a journeyman. It's good to see a relatively unheralded rider getting a huge win in a Grand Tour rather than all the top riders. Much rather that than seeing Groves or any other sprinter win every single sprint finish, that's just boring.
