I think Roglic assumed the time gaps were taken somewhere else than they actually were. So he's even with Evenepoel now ;)

I think he assumed they were being taken at the 2 Ks to go banner. Which... does seem more logical than 50 metres before the 2 Ks to go banner.

That's a stupid argument. There wouldn't be any racing without the fans, or the sponsors, or the organisers, or the hosting municipalities/regions either. Hence why it's a bad thing if the power dynamic is dominated by only one of these actors.

All the others, sure. I don't feel like fans really play much of a role in creating races.

Well, that was a *** mess. It's what happens when you only want the top GT guys to be close on GC and healthy for stages 13 onwards.

I personally think the riders should have a lot of power. Wouldn't be any racing without them.
They are employees.. they have a job to do.. Somebody needs to be in control and that has to be the raze organizers..
You can backpaddle everything down the cue of incentive, and the audience is the latter..
at the end of the day it's entertainment, so maybe deliver that entertainment...

It seems as if it comes as a surprise to the organizers that there is a race underway.

When the weather changes, don't you have a plan B and C in your pocket on beforehand to grab immediately? Apparently not. But entertaining it is.
Nope, thus panic

If nobody is watching, then there are no professional races anymore because the whole financial basis of the sport collapses. Also, there are lots of fans who do volunteer work to make smaller races in particular happen.

I joined late but what was the general reasoning behind this? Because I was absolutely unable to spot something dangerous or unusual on the roads.
If you saw the roads earlier, they were slippery, muddy and flooded, and looked absolutely treacherous. Cars were getting bogged down parking in the mud. They didn't know if they would get the road cleared in time especially if there was any more rain, so they agreed to neutralise it back to 2,6km, then revised that to a more suitable location.

In the end it didn't rain any more, they did get the roads cleared before the riders got there (and by the time they showed the pictures to the TV they were over an hour old, so didn't show the current position at all, so it was a bit misleading, similar to the scary-looking pictures of the Crostis descent in 2011 that were actually of the plateau at the top and a photo taken at an angle that made it look precipitous and off-camber) and it would have been perfectly safe to race it, but at the time they made the decision to move the finish they didn't know that.

I think had there not been the farces on stages 1 and 2, they'd have backed themselves to clear it and this would be a non-story, but because of those previous stages, they wavered.

On stage 1, the organisers fouled up and the riders called them out on it. On stage 2, the riders demanded the organisers kowtow to them to atone for their foul-up on stage 1, and the organisers did. Today, the organisers kowtowed to the riders before the riders even made any demands for us to even know if that was what they wanted in the first place.

With the amount of races that happen throughout the year, stuff like today doesn't really bother me much.

Compare this to the gravel ramp in the Giro two years ago where Bernal won and it's hilarious to see what differences in condition organizers value. That was definitely worse tarmac, not an issue at all and turned out to be an epic finish.

Edit:
Yea... but do please remember that that is also the same Giro where they cancelled Fedaia and Pordoi when they were totally passable due to similar concerns to this, where they pre-emptively shortened the stage due to anticipated weather conditions that didn't transpire at all.

Absolutely pathetic attitude by the peloton right now. 2 doms on the front guarantees you a shot at the stage, but no, let's give the break 1 minute in the span of 15 minutes.

Why would you kill yourself to get the stage with the ITT in Stage 10.
