I'm pretty sure the Giro had very few overlaps in the last few years in back to back editions as well.
I would be surprised if it didn't happen at least twice there.
2024 and 2025 had Rubio and Storer in the top 10 both times. 2023 and 2024 had Thomas and Arensman repeating. 2022 and 2023 did have zero overlap in the top-10s, but at least Almeida was a big factor until his very late abandon in the former and obviously he podiumed the latter. 2021 and 2022 have Caruso repeating, and obviously Almeida featured heavily in both. 2020 and 2021 has Almeida doubling up.

So no, this Vuelta really is a massive outlier.

It's Oliveira's birthday. It's their birthday present

Honestly, today is not a day they can help. The rest of the days and stages are more appropriate for supporting Almeida and they do it.

Yeah what a present. "You go in the break and suffer on Angliru".

Joke aside, I don't really criticise UAE's approach to the race. On most of the previous finishes Almeida should've been able to manage alone if he wants to win the race and 4 (5) stage wins + KOM and 2nd in GC is better than 2nd in GC, isn't it?

We didn't have Caruso repeating in 2021 and 2022.
We've had Hugh Carthy, however..

Wouldn't call one or two riders doubling up versus zero riders doubling up a 'massive' outlier though. Without having looked at it, I reckon both the Giro and Vuelta have a lot more fluctuating cast of protagonists from year to year compared to the Tour these days. Used to be different in the 2000s, where you had teams and riders focusing on the same GT year in year out, especially the stronger 'home' teams who actually had legitimate GC contenders. Which used to add some extra charm to the races, if you ask me.

You were asking about the Giro, so that's what I was listing.

I was talking about the Giro.
And Caruso didn't do it in 2022 (as I said). That's why I was thinking we didn't have any overlaps in both 2021 -2022 and 2022-2023.
However, when I checked Carthy did top 10 in 2021 and 2022.

Still that's like 5(?) repeats in the last 4 editions. It doesn't make the Vuelta such and otlier.
