Vuelta a España Vuelta España 2023 stage 10, Valladolid - Valladolid 25.6km ITT

Any chance of a mud slide so it gets shortened by 20k?
They shortened Jetse Bol's Vuelta by 11 stages. Also Bardet en Theuns and their teams I guess.

"RadioCycling understands that one of the two chartered Vuelta flights from Murcia to Valladolid had to land in Madrid due to heavy rain, wind and a lightning storm. They were then transported three hours by bus to Valladolid, not arriving into hotels until just before 3am."

Weather report says 27C & dry but a SSW headwind out & tailwind back which could help the big TT guys. The only thing that might cause problems is the tricky bit with all the corners at the beginning, then the TT specialists should blast away to the finish.
What the reaction will be if Vingegaard repeats his Tour TT performance will be interesting. Guys like Kuss & young Lenny M will probably lose a lot of time.

I tend to agree but we don’t need to look as far back as the the 2015 Giro. The 2023 TdF TT was only 22km and look what Vingegaard did in just 33 minutes. But with the Tour in his legs I would be shocked if Vingo can repeat what he did at the Tour to Pogacar to a fresh Remco on a perfect course for Remco.

Remco to win the stage
2nd Roglic
3rd Vingegaard

I will not predict time gaps.

that was a climbing TT, however. Gaps are going to be much larger there

Anyone know Kuss' T2 split of the Lussari MTT and his T2 split from the Combloux
If PCS Live data is correct.

Giro Lussari TT:

T1 10.8km (flat part): +38'' Roglic (3.5s/km)
T2 4.5 km (climbing): -6'' Roglic (-1.33s/km)
T3 2.5 km (less steep climbing): +26'' Roglic (10.4s/km)
T4 FINISH 0.8 km (even less steep climbing): +7'' Roglic (8.75s/km)

Tour TT:

T1 7.1 km (rolling): +52'' Vingegaard (7.3s/km), +36'' Pogacar (5.07s/km), +3'' Van Aert (0.4s/km)
T2 9.0 km (down and flat): +48'' Vingegaard (5.3s/km), +33'' Pogacar (3.6s/km), +26'' Van Aert (2.8s/km)
T3 2.8km (climbing): +52'' Vingegaard (18.5s/km), +18'' Pogacar (6.4s/km), +13'' Van Aert (4.6s/km)
T4 FINISH 3.5km (less steep climbing): +1'08'' Vingegaard (19.4s/km), +35'' Pogacar (10s/km), +7'' Van Aert (2s/km)

Evenepoel himself said in his press conference he would be happy with 30 seconds, I guess that's on Roglic / Vingegaard / Ayuso and all other favourites. He said yesterday he thinks he can take 2 minutes on Kuss.

So he would be happy with 30 seconds, and that will give him a buffer of only around 40s on Roglic / Vingegaard with all those mountains coming, and all those attacks to fend off. It will for sure be interesting, as he will need legs of steel (or better: carbon, that's lighter) in the mountains, with or without any significant buffer.

I think kuss will lose 1min 30/2 min to remco.
Roglic will lose 40/45 s to remco.
João Almeida will lose 40/50 s to remco.
Ayuso will lose 30 /35 s.
Vingegaard i really don't know.

Depends on Grischa methinks.

Evenepoel could win this, but will soft pedal after being told over 100 riders have already crossed the finish line

Love him or hate him, Remco makes the race exciting! Nobody knows what he will do tomorrow. It could be bloody Hinault, some golden quote ("I'm the strongest") or some hilarious stuff:p

Gorgeous.

Has kuss ever had an incentive to push a proper TT? And if so how did he do?
In the interview posted in the Kuss thread he said he really tried to improve his ITT in 2021, but he's not very flexible and putting more pressure on himself made him cramp up and do worse in the TTs. The interviewer asked if he didn't prefer the ITT to be before the rest day because of his good fatigue resistance, but Kuss said for an ITT it's really better he's fresh because he's less likely to cramp up.

Basically to me this just sorta lends credence to an idea I've had that some of the nightmare ITTs you see is largely down to cramping up in an unnatural position and things just going from bad to worse.

According to what I can find, the wind will be very faint, so I think it'll be a non-factor. It makes it somewhat easier to make a pacing plan, I guess.

I tried to think of 12 distinct cycling efforts but couldn't. ...
1. Do a race in toe clips and cleats
2. Sprint in a straight line.
3. Memorize the right way round each of 10 consecutive roundabouts.
4. Get your chain back on.
5. Get your rain jacket on.
6. Blow a colored smoke thing back into their dam face.
7. Fix your own tubeless tires, roadside.
8. Deliver 16 bottles from the team car to your teammates in one go.
9. At the finish line perform a raised hands, a shush, a sponsor underline, 3 chest pounds, a single raised fist, and an arrow-nock - in that order - while leaving enough room to slow down without hitting press or barriers.
10. Race on a 80's mtb. Any race you choose.
11. Ride one single GT stage so perfectly that no one here questions your tactics.
12. Down a liter of champagne or other sparking wine in one swig on the podium,
