I hope astana wont get the leaders jersey early, because with this team they have the power to completely destroy any action.

Should be a great race given that all the riders who would start as favourites (Nibali, Quintana, Valverde, possibly Froome) are all worn down from the Tour so should not be as dominant, with the riders slightly lower in the pecking order (Landa, Aru, Pozzo, Purito) fresher and raring to go.

I'm pretty sure Vino won't allow this, he'll make Astana drive the pace so hard that they finish 3 men on the podium :p

Schleck 4th in Utah yesterday, set for a strong Vuelta.

he wouldnt be the first senior rider of this team, who is good in utah and then wins the vuelta :D
Although I really don't believe in it I would be extremely happy if frank can be good in one final gt.

Schleck is my hope for the win. Would make for a most amusing Vuelta.

But really I think that Astana will take this; even to place all three riders on the podium is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Nibali and Cobo, had finished 3rd in Burgos just before they won the Vuelta. Horner came from Utah to beat Nibali, who had been again 3rd at Burgos in 2013. Contador was an outlier in his two recent wins but he's not riding. So this is all about Frank Schleck vs Dani Moreno :D

Great news. The Double is on. If anyone can win the Tour and another GT in the same year, it's surely Froome.

Got some money on Schleck, would be silly not to at 350/1. Can't believe he's still on them odds. Even after Utah Dombrowski is at 200/1, bookies really have no idea about cycling

it would be extremely brutal for some if against the background of dreams of the double for the other rider, the enemy #1 would pull the tour-vuelta double off. valverde is still my favorit for the overall. he usually blooms in full magic in his home grand tour no matter how intensive season he's had before

200/1 for a guy who took Utah convincingly is ridiculous. Both guys are outsiders but an each way bet is definitely worth it on them odds.

Well, Froome must be in the provisional startlist since the beginning of the year, with all that talk last fall about the Burgos time trial and that.

That list should have been made a long time ago. If the provisional startlist had been sent to the Vuelta organisers after the Tour, I would very likely see Froome at the start line. However, I believe that list must have been sent before the Tour.

It's still 14 cyclists, half the team. Froome said he was considering it, if he is considering he should be among the 14, it isn't an indicator that he is taking part.

Totally agree. I'm not a betting man but that screams tempting.

Oh ye of little faith, I seem to recall another American who went on to win the Vuelta after placing 2nd in Utah. ;)

Those are absolutely defensible odds for a young, extremely skinny GT debutant with a history of injury problems and a very ordinary track record in ITTs (let alone 40km ones), who only has 5 top 20s in WT stages (not overall, just stages). He has only cracked 10th place in a WT stage once in his three years as a pro. It would require so many unbelievable things to happen.

How is a guy who's never done a GT before gonna win against Rodriguez, Valverde, Quintana, Froome, TJVG, Aru, Landa, Nibali and Pozzovivo? Although he did beat Bookwalter and Woods convincingly in Utah :p
