Vuelta Stage 18: Suances → Santo Toribio de Liébana - 169 km

Page 23 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
Looking at the results, there were 4 and Froome finishing in the 10'-15' range, among 36 riders. There is another group spread between 19'-20' back with 1 more Sky rider. Everyone else at 25' back.

Probably felt that way for Contador, but obviously a stretch.

Sorry, thought the name of the book was Mein Climb for some reason. (I had a brain fart) (Seriously, sorry for that, wasn't trying to do a comparison like that.) Gonna edit my post.

Not taking sides here, but this is the funniest forum post I've read in a while.

Yeah it was correct.

But see also the last climb, at a certain point 10 riders with 3 sky.

Where can I watch highlights?

steephilltv.com and eventually on youtube.

I'm ashamed to say that at the start of the Vuelta I was under the belief that the Vuelta wasn't being telecast on any cable/satellite channels and I thus resorted to the above 2 sites for all my viewing. This morning out of the blue while preparing to watch the Big Ten sports network, I stumbled upon a channel that had been showing multiple times during the course of the day all the Vuelta stages. I saw the last 10 minutes of the stage 17 telecast! The final race of my favorite rider's career and I've missed almost all of it! The channel is under the NBC Sports umbrella, maybe took the place of Universal Sports Channel.

That name has been used so often here for Froome's book that I forgot that it was just a joke.

I had a brain fart and thought the name of the book was Mein Climb instead of The Climb since I saw the Mein Climb name being used for the book a lot of times on this forum.

I didn't hear the actual quote but based on the post referencing it didn't he say at a period in the stage that there were 7 Sky riders among 20 in his group?

After discussing with many of the moderating team it's been decided that we cannot accept posters using the term 'mein climb' as a reference to Froomes book out of respect for those that lost their lives fighting for both sides in that terrible period. Any posters found using that term including any other along those lines will face a ban.

Any questions please post in the 'moderators' thread. Thanks.

Good decision in my opinion. And I was just saying that I only used it because I had a brain fart.
Cheers :)

About the stage, congrats to Armee for a nice stage win. These type of finishes just don't suit Nibali and it looks like Froome is comfortable in red once again.

I discovered it on my TV on about stage 5 or so. On my lineup it took over the old NBCSN channel that aired the Tour in July.

It's also gonna air the women's race in Madrid on the last day of the Vuelta and some mountain bike stuff too this week.

I live in Gijón and I've been in San Martín de Huerces one hour ago. It was too late so I went there in my car but I climbed it on my bike (a race bicycle from the early 90's) some years ago.

If you want to ask me questions about the climb, you can do that.

I think this is why some people dislike Sky. Just wow.....

Obviously it's because people do not have the maturity to accept the results with grace and congratulate the deserving winner for a good ride when the winner beats their favorite rider.
Or perhaps that people don't like the winner because he is arrogant, boasts about animal cruelty, boasts about warning UCI over mechanical doping when Femke van Driessche gets caught, or his The Climb book (the coffee thing for example), or his whining about Contador attacking on a descent in Gap '13 or his whining about Nibali attacking in La Touissure '15 or the identity theft, or some of his statements about clinic matters.
But unlike many of his rivals has a clean record in cycling.

This shark is so weak. Stupid andorra stage. Contador would have won this vuelta

Don't blame the stage, I blame Contador's illness. The Andorra stage was great apart from that. Bertie has been so strong since then that you can only just wonder what might have been (the GC would definitely be more open than it is, although there is still a small probability that things will change). I'll be shouting for him at the weekend (apart from the fact that I'll be hiking in the mountains).

Bertie's claim that there were 7 bots in a group of 20 is a bit of an exaggeration, but not a lot. On the penultimate climb Mike Snow was slightly distanced when there were about a dozen riders left including 3 Sky riders (the Tractor, ET and Poels). David Lopez came back on the descent after which there were 5 bots in a peloton of 30-40 riders. This was a good profile for an ambush, but Sky are (and this is from someone who should naturally be a Sky fan) unfortunately clearly the strongest team in the race. I was expecting Moscon to fade in the last week, due to his youth and it being his first GT, but for a relatively big guy, he seems to have great recuperation.

Based on yesterday's stage, Nibali seemed to have a decent chance of overtaking Froome, but today has put Froome back in the driving seat.

Congratulations to Armee. He has had a great Vuelta and really deserved this win. It was a great stage with beautiful scenary.

p.s. I was expecting better things from Rosa in this race though. I didn't expect Puccio to be better.

I find it strange that they don't advertise here, an English language cycling news site. It's as if they want it to be a secret!

Let's not ovestate things. Contador was just reinforcing his point about Sky's financial muscle. There were about 5 guys in a 50 man group into that last hill counting Froome. It's not Mapei. It's not Astana at the 2015 Giro. It's the guy who sheparded Quintana and Uran up Zoncolan (dropping Aru and the rest of the field in the process) the four-time GT top ten '16 Giro KOM, and the new great hope of Italian cycling, leading the (current top) dawg up a hill.

Haha man, van Garderen and the other hopeless guy Nicolas "I need to prove I can ride a good GC" Roche are still struggling up with the GC group every day, losing time and places on every. single. fricking. stage. Do they even know what a breakaway is? Who on earth is calling the shots on BMC?

Why would Roche need to prove he can ride a GC? He was already 5th in a Vuelta once.

Yes it's the Olympic Channel. They show the Vuelta live daily and a replay later in the day. Unfortunately my carrier didn't pick up the channel so I've been using Fubo.tv.

Uhh. What is the climb like?
What climbs is it comparable to?
Who do you think it favours?
What will happen?
Will Contador break the 3000 VAM?

Nicolas Roche has been trying to go in the break all week since he fell out of the top 10...the thing is he has not been well and is going badly ..

The article about GC was before he lost all the time on Sierra Nevada ..... Not sure about TJ

But you go ahead and call riders hopeless if it makes you feel big

TJVG is only 12 minutes down on GC so a break like yesterday probably wouldn't be for him. He is outside the top 10 by a few minutes so maybe he is satisfied with a top 10 or maybe the fatigue has got him. He was in plenty of breaks in the Giro and won a stage so he knows what a break is.

The unusual thing about this Vuelta is the inconsistency of the riders. Someone who's good today can have a bad day tomorrow. On the Sierra Nevada López dropped Contador; on Los Machucos it was the other way around. Nibali gains time one day; loses time the next. However in the end it's still the top 2 that everyone expected.
