David Walsh's co-author on LA Confidential, Pierre Ballester;

Ballester warned Walsh about being embedded -

"you'll come out with *** he said!" ( so did Kimmage at a talk they gave together).

"It is so easy to manipulate a journalist, saying "dig-here or there." Imagine that you are invited for a drink by Al Capone.

After cooling down a bit, I've come to think Walsh has a point. A flat run in to the finish and to the stage should be more about total watts, it should hurt the true mountain goats harder. And given that it's the first mountain stage coming off a rest day, it was more about sheer power than recovery/endurance. Heck Tony Gallopin got a top-10 on the day.

If Plateau de Beille sees Froome take a minute from Quintana all bets are off.

All bets were off when he transformed before Vuelta'11 and Sky had an alien on their hands.

I still find it bizarre that a few weeks before the Vuelta, he was getting his a$$ handed to him in Poland.

Well yeah, most people do, but Sky fans didn't know about cycling until the Vuelta. Then by TdF 2012 they were experts.

It is funny that Walsh in July '99 was in the press room where all the hacks laughed at the ridiculousness of Sestriere, but Walsh found Armstrong's criticism of Bassons the smoke billowingout from the so called clean Amrstrong. The rest knew by his performance, not Walsh.

So what did he do, he wrote an arcticle criticising Armstrong. The rest did their day jobs, 'fans with typewriters' and wrote about the new cycling hero. What a 180º turn. Hacks starting to question Froome and Walsh telling us there is nothing, but clean hands, own pillows, pineapple juice, no nutella, others are amateurs, rabbits and pythons to explain what most of the rest of the world knows is cheating.

Crazy. Truly shows how we as humans can be so corrupted so easily. Wonder was Walsh hypnotised by Sky without knowing it. Boy he will look back at this period of his career and cringe.

It is so obvious. The stories that Sky/Froome are coming out with to cover this transformation would get laughed out of hollywood writers offices FFS, yet Walsh regurgitates it as pure professionalism. He is stopping short of saying Sky invented the roundest wheel ever in history.

Walsh apparently didn't mention anything about the 2000sterling a litre Ketone drink that Sky were using in 2012/2013.......

Brailsford now denying Sky use Ketones, but plenty of sources linked on twitter to sky using Ketones.

"Stephen, Thomas has just come off a very close second in Tour de Suisse. Everyone in that lead group is lighter than Nairo"

Damn stupid spartacus, he could have been that too.

Spilak could have won this tour.

Nice title.

I like the idea of making this thread the Walsh Shill Guide. Or The Walsh Excuse Handbook.

I am curious to know Gooner's take on Walsh at the Tour this year and specifically his words on other teams being amateurish and hopeless...

Sky head of PR, Walsh........

David Walsh ‏@DavidWalshST 9 minutes ago

Frenchman throws pee on Brit leader of TdF, then at end of stage another Brit rains on a French parade

How does he know it was French pee, was the guy wearing a striped t-shirt, beret, and garlic hanging around his neck, baguette in hand shout in French while launching peepee at Froome......

Walsh bases this 'evidence' of it being a French person

David Walsh ‏@DavidWalshST

On transitional stages it is not international crowd. Guy who spat at another Sky rider today was French.

Crazy, no wonder, people are getting angry........

* I dont agree with spitting, throwing urine, punching etc riders....Shout abuse, for sure, boo them for sure.

Walsh is an expert on pee. The French have their wine, the British like to take the piss...
