Problem is that, even if you are Contador, you can't stay away from a full, fresh peloton. As long as air drag plays a role, you're screwed. If there is no flat, only climbs above 9% gradient, only technical descents... maybe a short stage could be good (or at least as good as a longer one)

I remember that there were no peloton on Galibier, riders were all over the place. On Galibier, mostly Evans was pulling everyone because nobody else wont work so it is not like domestiques were against Contador and Europcar brought everybody back before Alpe (How the hell they had 3-4 guys on that group I still dont know)

You probly are confusing the two sides of the Galibier :p
Evans was pulling the peloton in the MTF to the Galibier.
In the stage of L'Alpe, Evans first stayed with AC, than he had a mechanical and just sat down behind his domestiques who pulled the peloton all the way to the top.

You think Milan-San Remo has been a sprinters race for a century?

You know nothing about cycling

I chose 2008 as a starting point because they added a new climb in 2008(Le Manie) and this climb has caused the selection at least 2 times since then.

At least try to pretend you know something about Milan-San Remo. ;)

Since 2003 5 editions have been bunch sprints and 5 have been won solo or in a small group

So MSR has not become more of a sprinters race with time? I Must have dreamt that Cav won it a few years back.

What about these?

In the same way people call Paris-Tours a sprinter classic maybe. ;)

Who called MSR a sprinters classic?

We are going to need a bit more than some weak *** deflection attempt to justify you going full *** again

MSR has become more and more of a spritners race as power in the peloton has increased.

Lol MSR has generally been becoming more of a sprinter's race, but the last few years this has not been the case as much.

Perhaps it really is due to the new climb, but I think it's more of a coincidence since 2011 and 2012 both had crashes.

Is anyone watching the whole women's race? Where I am (Eastern Canada), there's no TV coverage and I'm having problem connecting with Procycling Live.

You said MSR has become more and more of a sprinter race while the opposite trend has been happening.

You know what I call weak deflection? All your posts. Calling MSR a sprinter race is just the same as calling it a sprinter classic. And actually read my post, I was talking about the people who call Paris-Tours a sprinter classic.

Since the addition of Le Manie MSR has been less of a sprinter race than during the late 90s. That's a fact. Erik Zabel is gone, thank god.

Because the stage was too short and riders were fresh.

Le Manie has a very tricky descent. ;)
