Go over to the Pogi thread and say his bike has a motor and he's not racing on bread and water! Fanboys and bots galore will reply.
I think that specific stuff should be left to the Clinic, but otherwise yes! Especially right now before the Tour there are non-Clinic threads I don't even dare to enter, I think social media and some sort of Netflix cycling shows have gotten the superfans all kinds of revved up.

Was it like this with fans when 24/7 cycling news didn't even exist? (I only started following cycling about 10 years ago, so wouldn't know.)

Merckx did famously get punched back in the day, Cav and numerous others (including Froome) have been doused with various "fluids" and the second ever Tour de France in 1904, "...fans of hometown rider Antoine Faure formed a human blockade and beat the men until [journalist Geo] Lefevre arrived and fired a pistol to break up the melee. Later in the race, fans protesting the disqualification of a local rider placed tacks and broken glass on the course." So online flame wars (as occured on the forum) are just all part of the "rich tapestry" of pro-cycling! :D

Hi all,

Not entirely sure I’m posting in the right place for this — the thread title makes it pretty explicit, but a year and a half of inactivity gave me pause. In any case, seeing that the last post included a song by the great Jim Croce settled any doubts.

Long-time lurker finally stepping out of the shadows. I’ve been reading the forum for well over a decade and thought it was about time to actually register and join in — we’ll see how regularly I manage to post.

I’m writing from Barcelona, and one of the things that’s always kept me coming back is the generally respectful tone around here, which feels increasingly rare elsewhere online.

I follow men’s road racing pretty obsessively and have been getting more and more into the women’s side too. I also love all the rabbit holes cycling opens up: geography (serious map nerd — I probably know more obscure corners of Spain, Italy and France than is strictly healthy), cycling-related cultural references, history...

Anyway, happy to finally say hello.

Welcome to the forum.
This is definitely the right place, it's just... most people tend to just jump head-first straight into the river that's the CN Forum.
