Founders Brewing Company in Grand Rapids MI.

Session ale - Everyday IPA

I got Betsy to buy Frankie a two four of these, on the proviso she swore (profanity) and said "this $hits it over Michelob, blackcat swears by it"

Gilgamesh Brewing, Salem, Oregon.

Hopscotch Scottish Strong Ale, 8.2%, water, hops, barley and yeast.

Really nice toasted malt, rich mouth feel with a dry carmel finish. Nice beer if you can find it.

Mikkeller, Monk's Brew, Bourbon barrel aged edition, Belgian Quadrupel style, 10%.

Nose is mellowed and smoothed by the aging, heavy dark dried fruit and wood turns to a balanced mouth feel of the ale without showing its strength, then lingering bourbon finish. Not sweet as with the style sometimes or any of the vanilla that comes with some whiskey barrel aging.

Brewed once.

Beer

Sorry if there is already a beer thread but it didn't come up in a search, and wasn't on the first few pages.

My go to is New Belgium Fat Tire, but I'm bored with it for now. What is your favorite amber ale (that I can get in Boise, ID USA)? Sometimes I like IIPAs, but they aren't doing it for me lately. What beer are you drinking?

Try here for several suggestions, many based in the Pacific and Pacific Northwest.

There are a lot of good Saisons being made in the US (and UK) now. I've no idea what's available in Boise, but if there are any, they're probably worth trying if you're looking to to stay with an amber/straw colored beer.

One of those nice surprises.... I don't know what I was expecting but this is now one of my Top 5 Belgians. There's maybe 20 or so on the Top 5 list but it's my list and I can do what I want with it.

Nice!

I've been sampling some new (and old) local beers, but I'm still lookin' for a new favorite.
That is how Republicans balance the budget. :D
IPAs always do it for me, so maybe I can't help you? Maybe you haven't had a really good IPA? Like Pliny The Elder, Blind Pig, Sculpin, Green Flash, or some of the Stone Enjoy By's.

Is carmel a word in America or can you just not spell because your nation can't pronounce caramel correctly?

Can't speak for the nation but the beer was 8.2% ABV. I can't be held accountable for spelling errors after a couple of these.

The only one I ever drank from that list is Guinness. So the article says that the problem with Guiness is that it contains fish bladder and high fructose corn syrup, but it doesn't proceed to explain why those would be bad. A quick google teaches me that fish bladder is actually used fairly commonly, especially in British breweries and I couldn't find anything about negative health effects. As for high fructose corn syrup, it's basically just sugar isn't it? Another quick google teaches me that it's again a very common ingredient, used as a sweetener in lots of sodas and fruit drinks apparently. I mean, generally people eat way too much sugar nowadays so it's bad in the sense that it's another random product to which they added sugar causing people with Western diets to eat too much sugar, but it's just plain old sugar......

By the way, the fish bladder thing actually has a very particular, helping somehow to remove the yeast. For more info about fish bladder in beer and other products see:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isinglass#Foods_and_drinks

Anyway, in conclusion, I don't see any reason to stop drinking Guinness just yet :D

I drank Guinness many times but I would still put it behind Beamish(my own drink) in the list of Irish stouts. It kind of has a more malt, coffee and chocalate taste to it. I was never a big fan of the other stout Murphys.

When I drink lagers, I like to go for a local touch with Friar Weisse, brewed in Cork.

Alas, it's too bad I've never been to Ireland to taste any of those! Over here on the continent we have to make do with just Guinness I'm afraid. (I've been to England a few times, but I was still young and not really in a beer drinking company, so I had no chance to taste it there.)

But hey, I live in Belgium nowadays I haven't got anything to complain about regarding beer..... :p

There are actually some stouts over here as well, but it's a bit of a different style from the Irish ones. I quite like Guinness compared to Belgian and Dutch stouts (although there are some great ones over here as well), so if I ever have the opportunity I would definitely like to taste some more Irish style stouts. :D

All those nederlands and belgique beers are pretty good also but today (and almost all days :D )...

I've been to Slovakia on a holiday a few weeks ago and I tasted some Czech and Slovak beers there and they were pretty good. I didn't really see any type other than Pilsner, but what I've tasted there is certainly better than most Belgian and Dutch pilsners and it's not certainly not worse than some of the better pilsners from over here. :)
