Top, I confess that I don't know anything about Lambo's really but see that they were released (to the public) in Late Jan 1990. Forbes died in Late Feb 1990 so did he ever take ownership or was it a case of ordered but not delivered? It must be a really early production number?
ordered, not delivered.

went to Hawaii for several years, then to AZ. To the east coast and then back to AZ.

Finding a special order is great. I know a guy into Shelby's who found a '68 GT500 KR Convertible in a car yard (virtually a wreckers) in Japan. He had been searching for this specific car as it had been presented to the Emperor by Ford/Shelby and then disappeared. Its a long term resto though, pretty much shot. Lucky yours spent its time in the desert not just in Hawaii!

It's a car, it has 4 wheels, a steering wheel, it goes.
It's polluting the planet.
I'd rather ride my bike.

When you say it "went to Hawaii" for a few years, it wasn't "rentable" was it?

The reason I ask is becuase we once strolled past an Exotic Car Rental shop in downtown Waikiki and there sat this Lambo the color of money...renting for the low low price of $1000.00 an hour. We laughed, and ogled. It was the first time I'd ever seen a Lambo in person. This would have been the summer of '94...how strange would that be if it was the same car...

100% the same car. The Forbes Diablo was ordered by Malcolm in Feb of 1990 from the auto show. He passed away before it was delivered. Malcolm lived in Hawaii for much of the year, and dealership that took the order sold it to an exotic car rental agency. It stayed there for 7 years before it was purchased by a gentleman in Tucson AZ.

Only one car with this color came from the factory. It was special order before Lamborghini did special orders.

That is hilarious!

Folks can say what they will about the color, but the only car I remember looking at in the entire lot was that car...and there plenty of other exotics on the lot.

Here's the cockpit of my 2.0 914/4

I always wanted a 914. Very cool cars.

Here is a shot of the inside of my mini, sparcos front and rear, carbon everywhere. (fisheye lens makes the photo look funny) I was pretty proud of it, the guy I sold it to absolutely thrashed this little car.

Beautiful cars!

I've always had a thing for American muscle and am toying with the idea of getting one next year. Only thing is I can't decide whether to get a new Mustang or Camaro as the main car, or a classic as a weekend toy and keep the current as the daily ride.

My wife's 2001 Honda Insight its dead. She thinks that she wants a Mini Cooper. Any input from Mini Cooper owners would be welcome.

EDIT: She just walked past and asked me what I think about the "little Fiat". Owner input about those would be welcome as well.

My brother has owned the Maxi Cooper (being it's a 4-door I no longer consider it a "mini") for at least two years now, I can ask him how he likes it. (I get the feeling he must like it, he goes through cars like most people go through toilet tissue. He hasn't traded in yet.)

What specifically is it about these small cars that your wife likes?

As for my own car - I drive a '67 VW Bug, and all I can say about it is it gets the job done getting me from point A to point B. (It has no defogger, no defroster, no functioning radio, the roof leaks once it starts raining, but goddamit, I love that little car! :) )

And that reminds me, I need to add some oil. (The Bug has a bit of a leakage issue.)

She just likes little cars. Before the Insight she had a Geo Metro, and before that a string of Triumphs and MGs. The mpg of the metro and Insight have been a nice benefit.

I prefer two wheels so unless I have to carry something big, I ride my commuter bike for short distances, and my motorcycle for longer trips.

Did she ever own a Subaru Justy? :D

I had one back in the 90s - while it only had 3 cylinders it lasted well through 180,000 miles. It had all the perks - radio, on/off 4WD (turning on the 4WD actually got me out of a snow ditch once), plus A/C. Its optimal speed on the freeway was 45mph (and once you turned on the A/C it was more like 40mph), but it was a fun little car while it lasted.

No Justy! :D Her sisters are in town so car shopping is on hold. There's no rush because as long as the weather is nice she can drive our Toyota Tacoma and I can ride my motorcycle.

I didn't forget about the elm pics. I just haven't taken the time to figure out how to post pics. on here.

So, now that we're all comparing our fancy (or not so fancy) 4-wheels...

What's your shifting gear preference? Manual or automatic?

I actually prefer the manual, I like the feel of the road (and the way the car responds to it), and the car always lets me know when I've *** up. (It's kinda like with my bicycle, it always lets me know when I've wrong-shifted.)

I drove a 2015 Corvette Stingray and the 8 speed paddle shift automatic was pretty nice. We were on a tight canyon road so I only got to 5th though. The new 'vettes handle like they are much smaller. My sister's Boxter has paddle shift auto and its nice as well. I think that in the past manual was the only way to go, but automatic has come a long way (its not the same as in my '78 Buick Regal!).
