Zolder and Madrid were a total disgrace from my pov, even if Cipo and Tornado Tom were great winners.

Best of the bunch, Mendrisio and Salzburg. Mendrisio from every point of view, it was just THAT good, and Salzburg because the last km gave me chills like no other (and it was a good course too).

on a personal note, i loved geelong.
out of interest, what part of the course were you standing during the men's road race?

I agree that it was an awesome day for me personally as well.

on the first climb. I really wanted to write a TLR > ACF on the road at the time, but never got a chance
It was pretty awesome, I genuinely think it was a great race also.

I really really really wanted to get to holland next year for the champs (personally I think it will be a great edition)... but it is my final year in uni, and some of the units are only in trimester two, so unfortunately it looks impossible. Gutted.

Florence I will be there 100% and probably go watch some of the autumn italian races while I'm at it.

you two were both on the first climb?

i was originally near the beach front area but I then went to a pub on Packington street (the long straight after the 2nd climb). I had a good position to watch the race in person and then run back inside watch the remainder of the race on tv. was really good! There was two crazy belgian guys who were drinking lots and barracking hard for Gilbert.:p

Haha they were probably el pistolero and his buddy. Did you get to see Cadel?
I have never gotten to watch a cycling race in person:( But I always promised myself to go to France when I grow up and follow the tour.

boonen, bettini, cipo, cadel, thor, oscar. quality of winners? what?

were you being sarcastic?
No I wasn't.

Apart from Cadel, you pretty much have to be an sprinter.

Look deep at the history of the World Championship and see who the winners are. Then you will understand what I mean.;)

That's not the objective of the World Championsip. It needs to have more names to the winners other than sprinters.

With today's World Champioship I made my point again.

I voted Geelong. It was one of the most continually exciting, changeable and suspenseful races I've seen in recent years, let alone the magnitude of the prize. In terms of the last kilometre and the excitement I felt about the winner, it would rank below several of the others. But the last 90km of that race was all unpredictable action. Seriously, read the thread from last year if you don't remember, it was nuts.

Watching this year's just made me realize how good last year's was... sigh.

The only 2 races i have ever seen live were curcuits and i think they are the best ones to watch because you see the riders so much. The worlds are great for this reason too, especially if you can get on a hill but then theres more crowds and you have to wait a lot longer for the riders. In Vuelta a Espana stage 21 I started on one point of the circuit and walked calmly round the circuit encountering the riders at different points, seeing the city and getting through 95% of the course. Then afterwards the podiums and after that there werent that many crowds near the buses so walk alongside the riders including The Great One.

Did you get to see Cadel?

As I recall ACF said something about taking off his shirt and running alongside Evans.

Of course if you are talking about meeting Cadel there is this legendary thread

I was at the finish line in Geelong. It was going crazy!

Anyway, I voted for 2009. An attacking race on a challenging course.

el pisterlero be must a fat, stubby, beer drinking belgian then!

I think you have to factor in the fact in 07 Bettini defended his title an amazing accomplishment. In 10 Evans did a great job trying to defend his title. That adds to the story/ allure of those particular WCs'

I watched '99 race not so long ago, pretty great stuff. VDB even going into the attack with a broken wrist... If he didn't crash he would have become World champion that year.

But the sprint was just hilarious lol and the commentary that went along with it.
