IzzyStradlin said:What's crazy is that Horner is probably the most popular American cyclist....by far, among the 45-65 year old guy who only watches the Tour and spend the big bucks in the bike shop.
I'm still surprised that Specialized or Trek won't pay him for a year or two. He's the only famous American rider left.
But, Horner's always been very clear about his mercenary view of the sport. He rides for the highest $$$, that's it. So he never developed relationships with directors or teammates that could carry him if needed. Never developed personal relationships with sponsors. Burnt a lot of bridges. Now it's coming back to bite him.
BroDeal said:Trek was willing to pay him but not what Horner was demanding. The team's manager confirmed the price was too high and the team decided a better use of the money was to hire younger riders. Bad for the team because I suspect Horner would have had a better GT result in 2014 than Andy Schleck if he had been hired.
Horner was always an outsider in part because Armstrong did not want anyone on his teams if that rider could steal the American limelight from him.
IzzyStradlin said:There's probably a pretty long list of reasons Horner was a late bloomer in Europe.
Never wanted to live there
Always saw himself as the leader
Clashed with the other US alpha-dogs
Stubborn about diet/training
Given his rep, abstaining from PEDs would probably not be on that list.
He still doesn't want to live there, flies from the US to Euro races. I imagine his is a big downside to any Euro team, he just hasn't made himself available to race much in the past few years.
But still, he would be easily worth 4-500,000 for Trek or Specialized. Really must have blown it.

Race Radio said:At a recent talk Horner said he was currently 62.5 kilos and was 62 kilos while racing. At the Vuelta he told everyone he was 65kg. Wonder why?
According to his srm data, he was 6,85 W/kg if he weighed 62kg.gooner said:Sigh.
Gazzetta had him at 6.83W/kg on Pena Cabarga. I was just looking again at their calculations and it would seem they had his weight at 64kg when coming to their conclusions. If he was 62kg at the time, then wow.

thehog said:Funny enough there was a very strong tailwind. And it's a straight line climb.
No bends like Ventoux.

Or ''everyone' had good access during the Vuelta...the sceptic said:Makes sense. If Horner was as mutant as the numbers indicate, then he would beat the likes of Valverde and Jrod with more than 20 seconds.

GuyIncognito said:Funny how when he released the SRM data several people around here who are used to SRMs immediately pointed out he must be 62kg for that data to make sense and were shot down as haters
But hey, what do we know. We all came into the sport yesterday

Race Radio said:Yup, we were accused of "Manipulating" his weight when all we did is use simple math.
