With Contadors DQ, Menchov is 2nd in 2010´s Tour officially.
Wiggins is born 1980, Menchov 1978... Wiggins has 2 years left for the win.
Wiggins might be too strong on the road, so honestly, I hope Wiggins crashes out like he did in 2011 (this time without getting serously injured) or has mechanicals or illness, so the road is free for Menchov to win this Tour.

Usually when he's really good he ends up in the right group. Just think of the Tour 2010, Menchov was flying over the cobbles, his team didn't know what hit them.maxmartin said:

Wow. That's bodes well for him with Mench's placing today.
Maybe there is hope for Samu, who finished 40 sec off Canc's pace and 33 off Wigo's.

Seriously though, Menchov is almost an assured top 10. Top 20 if he has something dramatic happen. Top 30...almost inconceivable.

A prologue perfomance shows that Menchov is in good form and is riding well, but it has no bearing on whether he can reproduce that in the mountains where he may very well have declined.
He is in good form but a prologue is such a totally different effort to the ones which are required later on that this is no indication of what really matters just that his body is in good shape which should be expected considering he has been made this race the pinnacle of his season and has used all other races as build up.

As for his climbing being in decline, if anything looked in decline it was Menchovs tt performances as he narrowly beat known tt specialists jose rujano and joaquim rodriguez in the giro tt and almost rodriguez, and his Vuelta tt was meh.
Climbing wise, this was a guy who following a chasing pack of gc contenders up angliru a piece of cake.
To come 6th in a proloogue like this, its not the accident you make it out to be.

I can't remember menchov ever performing this well in a prologue, good sign for the rest of the race.

I think Menchov fans are actually calm right now. I'm as calm as the Pope himself. Now if he sucked in the prologue, that would be a totally different story. Everyone knows it's a 3 week race, but a good showing like this does just that - calm me down and give me cautious optimism
