I find it hard to say I can't stand any of them at present, mainly because I have not met them. I know Contador comes off badly in writing and English interviews but in Spanish he comes off a bit more direct and certain, even has a good sense of humor, sure you can hate the Steak-gate issue but it is what it is. I haven't gone to the big races as of recent but before I pretty much met them all or got a chance to talk to them (even ride) and most were very cool, but there were exceptions that were written up to be approachable but were not in person and even their teammates stayed away from them (F. Casagrande!).

Yes, I can see why people would not stand Contador, I get it. By those accounts I would hate A. Schleck for not knowing how to shift, I mean he's a Pro right? We all saw Riis test it post race and it worked perfectly.

David Millar also comes off a bit arrogant and careless, but from his early years (pre EPO bust) he sure has changed, I still remember an interview where he was asked which bike frame he considered the best and without hesitation said "Colnago!" and how he dreamed of riding one, meanwhile he was on Cofidis riding MBK's (well Cyfac's painted as MBK's), that Millar was at least fun to read about as he never hesitated to say what was on his mind :D

OK I will admit I never knew what was the fascination with Tommy D., and still think he should instead be riding crits in the USA, never has fit in. Over hyped, maybe not his fault but its what we continue to hear.

Why all the Tony Martin hate?...and Contador?...

I don't get it; Conti wins a ton and seems garcious about it. Of course he dopes, but you are silly if that is why you hate hi.

the biyatchiest thread ever...something straight from an episode of "Glee", or "Mean Girls"...

Just had to verbally express what, I believe, many other forum members are thinking...

The Ricco's and Di Luca's go without saying in my book but my big dislike is for Contador.

He comes across with a smug arrogance and he needs a new celebration. Sitting up nonchalantly on the bike like he's just been on a gentle Sunday ride and firing that pistol of his. I swear he'll lose that finger if I'm around.

i don't really waste my emotion disliking any one rider except...you know who

of the current active crop, funny as it may sound, i prefer quiet, modest and soft-spoken riders to the big-mouthed and flashy..vino, of course is an exception :p

for whatever reason cav and popo irritate me.

ricco ? i stopped caring.

I'm not sure why people feel that Contador is arrogant. He comes off as humble for somebody who has won six grand tours. When he breezes across the line after winning a hard stage, his lack of emotion could be attributed to the fact that he is focused on winning the race, not just a stage. I see him as a professional, and has done quite well for a young guy. There aren't many guys in their twenties who can carry themselves the way that he does. He delivers time and time again, and gives 100% in every race that he enters.

Unfortunately riders saying or doing annoying things is an increasingly common occurrence. So I'll flip the thread around and say that I sure appreciated Dan Martin's mature acceptance at his omission from the Garmin tour team. How great to see a rider say, 'yeah I'm in form right now but I can see why they left me behind.'

Ok, on topic. The combination of Pippo's wheelsucking, his curly-girly hair, his God tattoo, and his naked adverts annoys me greatly. That's why I want to see him win MSR.

No one. Hard to imagine developing such intense feelings about a person I don't know that I wish them to be unemployed.

Hushovd in the classics - wheelsucking his way to the podium
Pozzato in the classics - wheelsucking his way to nowhere (although I'm biased here because he always marks Belgians :p )

Lance Armstrong

Alejandro Valverde

Emanuelle Sella

Schumacher

And Hoste.

Already has.

I don't understand the Visconti hate, I wouldn't say I'm a Visconti fan or anything, but I don't recall anything to make him loathed.

think he gained a few dislikers from his actions in that giro stage (the one he got DQd from with Ulissi)

I really didn't think too much of it, otherwise Bettini would be hated since he once Baden Cooke into the barriers or Theo Bos would be hated a lot for forced Daryl Impey into the barriers at the Tour of Turkey a couple of years ago.

Contador has come off badly in English-speaking press because that press had a big long love affair with Armstrong. Armstrong and his coterie painted Contador as a selfish, unfaithful teammate during the Tour of the so-called Comeback 2.0 and that stuck for a while. However, as has been suggested, if you dig beyond this, Contador seems like a pretty good guy. A recent exhibit of this is his role Tirralongo's stage win at the Giro. The cynical among us will retort that Contador was just making friends for the Tour, but shame on them.

I agree.
It was the heat of the moment. But people are more inclined to remember the recent negative. I bet we had this topic next year (providing no incidents) you'd get less Visconti calls.

At the Giro I found out Contador is the only rider I really, really dislike.

edit: and other reasons, too. Basically every time he opens his mouth I have to call BS. Like with his Chaingate "apology".

One thing about Tony Martin is that I found it disturbing when he drools when he TT's. Also, there's too much hype about him and that's what really made me hate him. It started this year. The years before I really didn't think much of him. Also the fact that he's winning every time trial he enters with the exception of Cancellara being there. I find it weird though how I don't get sick of how often Cancellara wins.

Riders who I dislike tend to be guys who are too good... Those who suck the enjoyment out of every race by the sheer obviousness of the fact they are going to win. Examples are Contador in stage races or Cav for stage wins in GTs... Gilbert is closely approaching this point.

I have nothing, necessarily against them personally. Doping allegations aside I think Bertie is a perfectly swell guy. Same cannot be said about Cav, for who my dislike approaches near record levels for a non-doper.

Oh yes, and dopers.... Can't stand those guys.

Agree with this. I tend to like the underdog. Couldn't stand Armstrong during his 7 year reign either (although I quite liked him during his comeback ). But those 'dislikes' are quite fluent, they can easilly change when that person stops winning so much (although Contador would have to stop doing those ridiculous pistols as well for me to like him).

Although he quit a couple of years ago, there was only one person I really hated, and that was Virenque. An absolutely repulsive character.

Some random names I don't like Voeckler (stop looking in that camera, attention *****, he is like the cycling equivalent of a 16 year old girl on facebook), Farrar (have no idea why, just don't like), Vinokourov (should have been a rider I liked, but I guess the unending praise for him made me dislike him, his positive was one of the few times I was glad someone was caught), Di Luca (although he is more of a joke now, I don't mind his failed comeback), Karsten Kroon, Leukemans (both whiners, Kroon with his constant great legs that just didn't pay off, and Leukemans with his complaining about the Spaniards going so fast it's like they are on motorbikes, and then getting caught himself (what a glorious moment that was)). I guess that's about it.

Virenque I used to detest so much I'd change the channel whenever he was interviewed. Now he's a commentator on Eurosport, I realise he's as thick as a plank, and actually quite genuine. What you see is what you get. His voice doesn't help him.

Another who's voice doesn't help is Vino. When speaking French his voice has a hypnotic sibilance that is the very caricature of the evil villain who wants to conquer the world.

Voeckler is my currently most disliked person in the peloton. Whether it's his low cunning whenever in a break, or his staggeringly stupid attacks whenever the peloton is winding up for a mass sprint (luckily he has learned that it doesn't work for him) he irritates me. The most annoying is his menopausal-women-adore-me-and-pity-my-agony grimaces that he turns on whenever he wants to avoid doing his share of the work.
