Who will beat Cav in the Sprint stage(s) of The Tour?

I have to bring one more name to the list, all things being considered: EBH..

I nearly put EBH in but I decided to assume that he'd waste all his energy for Cav.

I think Sagan will come off with the most stage wins of the "sprinters". I doubt that he will be the fastest in a straight up bunch sprint, that will be one of the Germans i suspect. I also have my doubts about Cav, having lost 4kgs im sure his top speed will have been affected but i wouldn't be surprised if he comes off with a stage or two.

Also Petacchi has been preparing for this all year long, so i hope he will still be able to do something nice.

Should be very realistic IMO, probably even better. The green jersey hunt might cost him a couple of break away wins though as I guess his competitors' teams for the jersey won't let him slip as easy into the breaks. Much easier to get into a break that is let go if you aren't fighting for green as we saw with Thor and EBH last year.

Pretty amazing how this thread is turning into "What will Sagan do?" over how will Cav do.

The Man is obviously on people's minds. He must be doing something right.

in the past Cav was IT. Now his team has other fish to fry, goal wise. PLUS I think he knows his sell-by date is approaching so he is trying to morph into a Green Jersey Guy, not just sprints.

Cav seems to be very realistic about his chances at the tour this year. I think Griepel & Kittel are the two to watch with Goss nowhere.

Sagan will get a stage- though it might not be a sprint with Cav in it. Renshaw will get a few 2nd places.

Goss will get a stage and Kittel and Greipel each have the talent to beat Cav in the sprints.

Goss and Greipel i think will be the only 2 to actually beat Cav more than once.

greipel more than matched cav for speed at last year's tour, except his positioning was rubbish. always going from a long way out.
with an actual train this year I'd expect him to be in far better contention and to knock cav off on probably more than one occasion

kittel, I feel may be a tad over-awed and not expect the stage pace, so may not be 100% for finales. I could be wrong though.

Goss and the GE 'train' may work, but i'd expect lotto's to be better

would love to see renshaw take a stage, but he'll need to do it a-la mcewen positioning wise and be at the right place at the right time...

Greipel has very little positional sense

Kittel and Greipel assuredly have the pace to beat him and it all depends on positioning.

Well that criterion rules out Greipel entirely.

I've rarely seen a sprinter with worse positional sense.

Greipel's often faster than Cav, but the Manxman has no peers when it comes to positioning.

Just compare them in the Copenhagen world championship road race: Greipel was almost twice as fast in the closing meters, but Cav found the 'impossible' gap to win by meters.
