Purito would've lost the Vuelta if we take away his uphill sprints. This Vuelta isn't a "win the uphill sprint, win the GC" Tour? Tour only had 2 time trials, the Vuelta had 14+ uphill finishes.

How much time can you gain in one uphill finish V one TT?

And anyway this is about the achievment... just because Vino won the Olympics from the break does that truly diminish his achievement all that much..?

All I'm saying is that you just don't take away a rider's biggest asset and then say he's mediocre. Because Purito is no different, in fact he's worse.

Take away all the short uphill walls this Vuelta and he wouldn't have won, simple as that.

I never thought I'd say this but please don't let Purito win this. Even Wiggo would be better. Just because he beat Alberto, yes, I am that pathetic

At least I was already annoyed by Purito during the Giro. :D

Well so far, Rodriguez has been weaker after 250km, but I'm sure he doesn't have a problem with that anymore.

But Purito had to make sure he was there in the longer climbs too and he had too make sure not to lose too much time in the TT, against Froome and Contador.

He has worked hard on his weaknesses, with succes, while retaining his big weapon.

Last year he was a boring one trick pony, but now he's a much more balanced rider. :)

Just has too get the GC in the Vuelta, and the points jersey, and maybe another uphill sprint or so, and he'll probably have more victories than Wiggins??

Wiggins also needed to climb you know. He was obviously a better climber than anyone there bar Chris Froome, so it wouldn't have mattered much if the route was more mountainous.

Also quality > quantity.

Purito has to fight off Contador, Valverde and Froome, on short punchy climbs, on longer climbs and in the TT.

That's more quality than Wiggins faced.

They should just the Velo d'Or to whomever got the most cqranking points, that would probably be the most fair.

That would probably be mr. Rodriguez by the end of this Vuelta

Yes, that is very likely indeed. It represents all those stage victories + his double GC schedule. Of course my proposal would mean that an extremely full schedule is needed for the award receiver, but at least there would be less discussion, hurt feelings and so on.

So, a rider who wins 20 or so Le Samyn etc would be crowned Velo d'Or.. I dont think that is entirely fair..

More like 30. Anyway, what's important is not that it has to be exactly the point weights of the current CQ, but that there should be any objective points system at all. You could always weight down or exclude .1 races, but the more important thing is that then riders would be able to consciously target VdO and the winner would not be influenced by as many factors unrelated to performance.

You mean Contador coming off a suspension, Valverde who was also targeting the Tour and Froome who killed himself in the Tour. I'd rather Purito won but Wiggo deserves it.

Look at the CQ rankings mate
Last couple of years:
2004 Cunego
2005 Boonen
2006 Boonen
2007 Evans
2008 Valverde
2009 Valverde
2010 Nibali
2011 Gilbert

All of these won at the very least one monument or a GT in the year they were on top of the CQ ranking, except Evans in 2007. Nobody will ever be 1st in CQ by winnings loads of crappy races.

People who wiin the CQ ranking arn't the ones that win all the crappy races, they are the ones doing well in big races throughout the entire season.

But only in 2005 and 2011 did the winner of CQranking win the Vélo d'Or. ;)

Don't like it but Wiggins.

Unless purito wins the vuelta and becomes WC it's Wiggins.

yeah, to be honest, I know very well Wiggins should get it, even if Purito wins the Vuelta.

Even Boonen is probably more deserving than Purito. when you see how he dominated the classics this spring.

Only if Purito wins the Vuelta and the WC he should be considered. Purito certainly deserves winning something like WT rankings, because he has been so strong and consistent throughout the entire season, but he still missed the big wins so far. If he had won LBL he should've been considered too.

I was just trying to see if this place is still flooded with Sky fanboys that jump on every negative comment about Wiggins, but all I got is you. :p

I tried to do that with my bump. :D

Anyway, yeah, he deserves to win the WT ranking. I really think they should award a jersey for that like they did in the past. Or at least make 2 separate rankings: one for one day races(the world cup) and one for stage races.
