Who would you like to see in the rainbow jersey on Sunday?

That's it? So Santa posts "Goodbye World" and then a couple of hours later he posts “I have to and I will win this race,” “Thank you for helping me reflect and for saving me.”

And Terpstra basically calls him a drama queen.

I have no idea of the exact timeline, but does that sum it up?

ah, well many more people deserve much more sympathy than just another doper who perhaps regretted popping the needle in the vein.

I rather want to see people speaking their mind than getting the discussion drowned in pc.

Go Terpstra.....
Good on him for speaking his mind, but he's a complete loser for having that on his mind at all. Someone is hinting at committing suicide and your first thought is "oh he's just begging for attention"?? That screams "douche" to me. Very few people deserve to die and doped up sports(wo)men are not among them. That was a cry for help. Thankfully some people like Alessandra De Stefano answered.

well, I think Chubby cheeks was a bit of a clown too, but hopefully hes figured out a way to move forward.

good post flo. i like a lot of your posts recently (except that one thread of course).

I would add that its also sad for Terpstra to go after an easy target. If this was someone with a track record of speaking out against dopers, and making some sort of sacrifice to defend their p.o.v, I'd accept it as someone following their principles. But Terpstra isn't like that. He only picked out on Santa, when he was at his weakest.

He was doing exactly what he was accusing Santa of doing - taking advantage of a sad situation to score twitter points.

I think that's overstating it a little and I'm sure Niki wasn't the only one who rolled their eyes a bit at the sequence of events. Still, it was certainly insensitive (moreso if his tweet came between Mauro's rather than after them) and the kind of thing that most people probably wouldn't put out in public even if they thought the same thing.

Not enough to prevent me from being a fan of his on the bike, but then I don't really think of riders as role models and I'm sure I've cheered for athetes who've done worse.

With the benefit of later events it can now be obviously viewed as an attempt to gain sympathy.

But somehow people still think that Terpstra was the bad guy in that episode and nobody is demanding that Santambrogio apologized for his theatrics.

Making an insensitive tweet against popular (at least as far as I could gather) opinion is hardly a method of scoring twitter points.

On the contrary, I think beating up on fringe Italian Giro pinatas has always been a popular opinion. I remember even brit tabloid The Sun got in on beating up on Ricco. Even Lance got in on beating up on Di Luca. Terpstra was looking for those same -attaboys.

Come on Hrotha, that sounds like a very weak excuse to dump Terpstra....

Are there more?
It is a very good excuse, it makes Terpstra looks like a total d*ck and not many want to support a total d*ck.
I love you Flo. A Dutch who isn't rooting for the Dutch. Now that is a dedicated cycling fan. :p

Has there ever been a situation where you have cheered because one of your favorite riders won against a Dutch? :p

I want to be loved too! I preferred purito winning the Vuelta over Dumoulin! Gimme some love! :((

Damn, that's surprising! No shock with Flo. I almost never hear her cheering for Dutch riders.

c'mon guys, everyone from the peloton and outisde knows that terpstra is a douche

still on a bike he looks awesome, great rider. it won't be a bad world champion for me.

Same here. Like him as a rider, but he's a douche for sure.

Not the most terrible one, but certainly not someone with a lot of friends, but I dont think he cares.

Flavio Cardoso isn't on the startlist, so I want Kleber Ramos to win :D
In all seriousness, Stybar or Boonen would be great winners, Sagan winning with that kind of team would be awesome, but nothing would beat a Phinney win, not even Trentin winning.

Ok, you guys have mostly convinced me - he's a bit of a tool off the bike. Still, since for me it's all hearsay since I can't actually understand anything he says, I'm going to continue to cheer for him as I love to watch him ride. He always just seemed rather funny and a bit of a character to me.

Someone who was battling depression and toying with the idea of suicide (people who knew Santambrogio in person took it seriously enough to check on him urgently) seeks attention at a low point. How is that in any way strange, or reprehensible? His cry for attention, if that's what it was, was also a symptom of a serious problem. Terpstra was very much the bad guy here.

It's worth pointing out that it's not like this happened immediately after Mauro got banned or anything either. It was several months afterward, and leading up to the "addio mondo" tweet he hadn't posted anything on social media in four months and had broken ties with a number of friends. So that's one side of the context. The other is that Terpstra's tweet on the subject (which he later deleted so at least in retrospect he acknowledged it wasn't the smartest thing to have said) came before the ensuing salvation tweets.
