Never mind all this doping stuff, what about the god awful black socks??

That was to cover th injection marks. White socks tended to leave blood spots from the injection point. After a while you have to go to the vain in your ankle as your arm gets very tender and it's too easily sighted.

I get the feeling that we're going to see a few posts along the lines of "white socks, he must be clean" now.

I once knew a guy who used up even his ankle he'd injected so much, so had to go into his foot; nasty.

not the biggest schumacher fan here, but senna did exactly the same thing to prost and people still praise him to this day.

People are subjective.
Senna is a cuddly prettyboy. Schumacher looks real creepy with a narror photoshopped moustache.
I disapprove both for the bumping, but might prefer Schumacher as a driver. Prost was great but slow in the rain. Mansell was special, plug and play quali winner.

I address those who name the Simeoni chase incident. What would it mean to your dislike of Lance if he'd come forward and offered him a public apology, stating that it was wrong for him to misbehave like that, bad for the image of the sport? Would that make him an OK person to you?

Look, he is a bit like Michael Shumacher. he is still in the public eye but as far as many fans of F1 go (bearing in mind that most have only gotten into the sport in the last 4 or 5 years) he is a great champion and all around pretty nice and friendly guy. All they generally see are the interviews, the smiling and the history of being a winner.

They have no idea what a dangerous cheating scumbag he was in his efforts to win all those world titles.

To take this analogy to its logical conclusion - why would anyone hate Michael? Just ask Damon Hill - amongst others...

Not a good analogy. Despite his flaws and incidents, Schumacher was extremely talented, what cannot be said about Armstong was not (at least if we are talking GT´s).

Same applies to Senna - he was very-very talented.

Not sure about okay - better, for sure.

The things is that he almost certainly won't, because that's the kind of guy he is.

This place is scary. So much hate for a guy who has done so much. But it worries me that the things being said here are true. My nephew wears a Livestrong wristband. Do I tell him that Lance is a bad person. Why would a guy who won seven Tours continue to dope. It makes no sense to me. :(

You know that movie with the red and blue pill? The matrix of lies in pro cycling is even worse.

And, take the wristband of your nephew, please, it's like Saddam having WMD's.

I think your nephew should be ok. Just tell him that Lance has an impressive legal team that can not only ward nasty French drug testers but also negotiate with prying government officials!

However under no circumstances are you to tell him that Lance lied to Bono. That would be the end. Lying to Bono is sacrilege. No child should have to contemplate such an injustice.

This is Bono man!

Off-topic, but as a U2 fan (not so much Bono anymore), I've repressed this subject. Doesn't Bono have a very shady (no pun intended) charity going on as well? Jets, world leaders, hollywood elite, merchandise products.

Hands off Bono! The One charity has 4 stars from Charity Navigator!

"According to the Post the nonprofit took in $14,993,873 in public donations in 2008, the latest year for which tax records are available. Of that, $184,732 was distributed to three charities, according to the IRS filing. More than $8 million was spent on executive and employee salaries."

Jesus you can't be for real.

If you are, get the yellow wristband and try recycle it. In another year or two it'll be worth less than mud.

Do you have a link to the lawsuit?

Not at hand at the minute - it was about fifty pages in length and detailed the tyrant of a boss Lance was. It detailed how miserly he was as regards pay. He expected Mike to be on call 24/7. How lance went back on his word of helping open up a shop, and how Lance turned into an even bigger d*** when Mike found the androtestosterone.

I always admired his killer instinct on the bike and his ability to stick the knife in and twist it.

But I've also realized over the last 5-7 years that he is not a good guy. I hate the way he treats people who don't agree with him or who have somehow crossed him. In short, he's a total d-bag.

I can look past the doping, especially in this sport where all his competitors were also doping. But being a d-bag on top of that? Can't get past that.

How did michael schumacher cheat?

Ignoring the "driving Hill off the road to win the Championship" and the "trying the same thing on Villeneuve but being caught this time" thing, there's also that the 1994 Benetton was shady as all hell. There was traction control (illegal at the time) hidden as "Option 13" which could only be selected via entering a complicated code, and which was only on one car in the team. Senna noted after retiring from a GP that Schumacher's car sounded different to all the others when it passed him when he was walking back to the pits. It could be sour grapes, but it could be a telltale sign, given how insanely brilliant Senna was at noting and describing precise car changes (he used to go on race-length simulations and tell people 'the car was making this noise and doing this behaviour on turn 13 of lap 38'). There's also the illegal removal of the filter from the fuel rig, thus enabling faster feeding of fuel, which made the Benetton pitstops routinely quicker but ran the risk of a pitlane fire (as happened to Jos Verstappen, the other Benetton driver).

Then there's a lot of stuff he did that wasn't illegal at the time but was antithetical to the spirit of the rules, such as serving his drive-through penalty on the last lap so he didn't lose time as he crossed the line during it, or parking on the racing line, or making Rubens pull over to let him past on the final corner, and much of this was promptly banned after he exploited it.

It's a PDF. I haven't read it. Twenty seconds of googling.

I just read some of the case file.

He really does come across as pompous and regal like. “Go fetch me some new kayaks for the ranch woudya boy”

“We don’t need you here anymore! Me, Crow and Ferrari are heading off to the Canary Islands!”

The clincher was when Anderson and his 6 month pregnant wife were accompanying Lance to Girona. Lance had Anderson and his wife (who wasn’t paid for her work) travel coach whilst he travelled first class. The file notes Armstrong came down to coach to talk to Anderson and his wife. So good of him!

Hey Bono, you forgot to mention the box of goodies Mike found at the Girona apartment!
.
cheers

The problem is not so much how much he's done, but what it was he did.

Depends on how old and how worldly your nephew is. At some point, kids just have to learn that not everyone is nice, and some want to seem nice when they aren't. There are people who aren't necessarily "bad" or "good", but very much a mixture of the two. I'm sure Lance has good elements, he just lets them get drowned out by his bad ones. You could tell that to your nephew?

He continued to dope to win more - next question.

Sheesh, the guy shows his support for equal rights for women by letting her ride coach and suddenly he's a bad guy?

Cake and eat it. ;):D

Aww Patrick now tell me, YOU would not do that to a woman would you??
I think you would be magnanimous and buy the nice folks a treat, maybe even an early baby gift?

Equal rights to me would mean Lance should have stuffed in a few extra pounds of cake to add some bulk in his designer jeans and then squeezed himself into a coach seat. ;) :D
