One doesn't need a tinfoil hat not to be stupid, but others could do with not burying their head in the sand.

Yeah, with two embedded film crews and surrounded by the world's media.
What's your point?

That trying to cheat with camera crews recording thousands of hours of documentary footage is maybe not a smart move?

I would hazard a guess that Armstrong was the most documented cyclist ever in the pro peloton with his own photographers constantly around. Having them around means little. Wiggins kept a photographer waiting 2 days for a promised 10 minutes then left without giving him his 10minutes.

Bigger Than Life is an American DeLuxe Color CinemaScope film made in 1956 directed by Nicholas Ray and starring James Mason, who also co-wrote and produced the film, about a school teacher and family man whose life spins out of control upon becoming addicted to cortisone. The film co-stars Barbara Rush as his wife and Walter Matthau as his closest friend, a fellow teacher. Though it was a box-office flop upon its initial release,[2] many modern critics hail it as a masterpiece and brilliant indictment of contemporary attitudes towards mental illness and addiction.[3] In 1963, Jean-Luc Godard named it one of the ten best American sound films ever made.[4]

Bigger Than Life was based on a 1955 article by medical writer Berton Roueché in The New Yorker, titled "Ten Feet Tall".

Schoolteacher and family man Ed Avery (James Mason), who has been suffering bouts of severe pain and even blackouts, is hospitalized with what is diagnosed as polyarteritis nodosa, a rare inflammation of the arteries. Told by doctors that he probably has only months to live, Ed agrees to an experimental treatment: doses of the hormone cortisone.

Ed makes a remarkable recovery. He returns home to his wife, Lou (Barbara Rush), and their son, Richie (Christopher Olsen). He must keep taking cortisone tablets regularly to prevent a recurrence of his illness. But the "miracle" cure turns into a nightmare when Ed begins to misuse the tablets, causing him to experience wild mood swings and, ultimately, a psychotic episode which threatens the safety of his family.

Might be a better movie than the Program.

Depends on what you consider discussion. Maybe if you toned down the hyperbole a bit and actually tried linking to some sources rather than just grandiose statements that appear to be just made up, then you would get a discussion.

I don't much like Wiggins or Sky for that matter and at best I consider them hypocritical. But I'll be damned if I'm going to clamber on the hyperbolic bandwagon that you, Benotti69, thehog, and others of your ilk have got going here.

The only statement that appears to be just made up appears to be your statement that statements just appear to be made up. ;)
Zorzoli got reinstated. And thanks again to fmk for confirming that with a link. That's what I mean with fruitful debate.

I understand the hyperbole comment, I really do. But you got things all up side down.
First step is to reduce insults to the brain.
Second step is to reduce hyperbole.
Like with all things in life, you can't make that second step if you don't make the first.

You enjoy the hyperbole espoused by the likes of JV and his 'new generation, cool kids dont dope' BS.

It aint hyperbole if you look at the sport without the rose tinted glasses. And waiting for facts, well look how long it took for the facts about a certain Texan ,who was most despised, to come out and while waiting for those facts those who were calling Armstrong a doper were accused of hyperbole amongst other things.

The silence from Wiggins and Brailsford tells us all so much, so much.

3 years of " I dont like Armstrong, but he's the best and he never doped and everyone is just jealous, etc etc etc" from polish and flicker and co, have kind of immunized us against this one, sorry.

So I just read in a Richard Williams piece in the Guardian that apparently Bradley is going to be on the Andrew Marr show on Sunday morning.

Should be fun!

Mat, keep defending liars, this sport has been a cesspit for a long time. Sky said they were going to be whiter than white. They drew this heat, they lied. The **** is hitting the fan because they made it so.

Now you want to get pedantic on a plaster, great. But Wiggins is a doper. That is clear. In the words of Braislford, you don't lie on Monday, but not on TUEsday. You dont lie about legal dope and not take illegal dope.

I think fans have the right to be cynical about everything in this sport, to doubt and question everything. If you cant see that than you cant see this sport has huge problems still.

Maybe he did, but its unlikely that he took stuff during the Tour. Lance said that all his doping was done before his Tours, but during the Tours themself, he rode clean as there was too much testing. Whether that's true or not is debatable, maybe he had some micro top ups that wouldn't be detected by testing 24 hrs later. But you reckon Wiggins would go speak to the media with a plaster on a vein that wasn't from testing? Come on, he's not stupid

Yeah, it's tragic.. But the silence is actually the best defence, not say anything and lie low, hoping that it doesn't gain traction because :
- Most of the cycling world still dopes a bit, uses many of those tricks (corticos, TUEs, etc..) so won't say much.
- Fancybears will be nice enough to get something else out to divert attention to american athletes or so.

And so far it is working pretty well to be honest, sadly.

Surely you don't believe Lance Armstrong? We already know riders are flying under the radar whilst microdosing with EPO and more. And one has to be a moron to trip the ABP.

Actually Wiggins is not the smartest. Landis called him on that.

But as for taking stuff during GTs, you aint been watching many GTs. CIRC report had some riders taking up to as much as 30 tablets a day during GTs. Contador was caught with Clen in his system during a tour. Minute but still there. Santambrogio, Di luca, Ricco et al were caught during GTs. Landis admitted taking stuff during tours. USPS had motoman do deliveries during tours. Buses were stopped on cols pretending they had a breakdown while Blood IVs were done on USPS. There are no hard tests. Anti-doping is a joke, a PR exercise at best.

The TUEs are small stuff compared to the rest of the cocktail. Wiggins was working with TeamGB and Brailsford way before 2009's break through year into GTs. How he lost the weight so quick and no loss of power is not explained by cortisone alone.

Funny how Wiggins doesn't mention that his rating of 5 on the index of suspicion meant that he had the same rating as Contador and Vino and was more suspicious than Lance (2010 Lance, not 99-05 but still)

And Wiggins wasn't exactly flying in the 2010 Tour
That index actually was in reference to 2009. So the Wiggins that suddenly became a gt contender. The Armstrong that podiumed the Tour. The Menchov that got a free pass from the offici als because Rabobank was nice enough to fire Rasmussen. The Popovych that went on-off-on from 2007-2009.

Niballi IS arguably the biggest "within a GT" transformation in recent times. There are other contenders for clearly showing a step change in from due to a rest day. (At least TJVG's step changes are always downwards after the 2nd rest day)

Horner clearly was taking onboard blood, his biopassport shows that (just not enough to trigger a case)

Aru was about to crack and lose contact to a group including Amador during a medium mountain stage. One day later he dropped Uran like if the Colombian was a school boy. Way bigger improvement than Nibali this year.

Re: index of suspicion, worth remembering that riders rated at 5 warranted closer scrutiny and their samples showed signs of manipulation. In fact looking at that list now, it seems remarkably prescient.

When it was originally published in l'Equipe, the IoS was accompanied by a long article on the scourge of cortisone doping - such irony
