How can you watch somebody race, for hours, in person, apart from at a velodrome?

Bizarre.

Oh jesus f'cking christ, could you at least try out something more original than that? I mean, really.

what? a member expecting more from clinic discussions such as objectively discussing the fact that wiggo always looks skinny

and is well known to mislead in what he says

Well that's somewhat funny, Mr Flanders. You've been stuffing words in my mouth this evening but you aren't so keen when I (deliberately) return the favour.

Its been fun, but its bedtime now.

Ciao.

How do you feel about judging rider weight based on watching them for hours in a race on TV or seeing them in person and for hours in a race on TV?

And now you are able to judge weight from people on tv

I think the only person talking about photos is the person telling us you can't judge weight by photos. For some unknown reason this person is posting photos of Ulrich to dispute a point no one was making about Wiggins.

Ohohoh :D Actually it's exactly the point as you very well know and hence the hopscotch around those nasty pictures as it's taking Thor's hammer to your eyeball test.

1. You can estimate weight by Eyeball. Not just pictures, but now you even claim you can do it on television. And to wit, this person is wearing quite different clothes (thinner).
2. So I show rather convincingly that even on a still it's impossible to judge a riders weight. I use the most famous example, one who supposedly jo-joed a lot more than Wiggo.

I love parlor tricks as anyone else, but someone saying he's able to eyeball a two kg weight difference from apicture is just overestimating his own skills. Claiming you can see it on TV is even more amusing.

Par for the course, sadly.

Par for the course is that something arbitrary as eyeball judgement is being seen as a factor here.

I'm actually extremely amused that now all of a sudden there's "an agenda" *sinister drumroll*. I wonder how my agenda meandered through those years when I posted the court papers of Leinders to accuse Sky of being dirty

So again, yes. It's fairly obvious both on TV and in person that he dropped a bunch of weight since Roubaix. If you can't tell, I don't know what to tell you. I don't know why Brad confirming exactly what I'm saying doesn't work, but of course he's playing a game and what he says can't be trusted in this case because it's the opposite of what you want to think.

This has turned into a more worthless conversation than it was when I joined it. I fail to see people's point in denying simple, obvious, confirmed facts. But have at it, I don't have anything else to add.

For a moment there I thought you were going to have a huge moment of self-awareness ;)

But actually I'll just grab that for an awesome sig line

Either Address the points a poster brings up directly or don't respond at all.

Ermmm, is that aimed at my post just above it? I'm not sure what's wrong with it, I just wanted to start following Wiggins as he's back tweeting again, as there's always potential for a car crash!

And I don't want to be too pedantic, but thinking about it, asking someone to point you in the direction of a tweet they've mentioned in their post is hardly off the point, is it?

No, it's not. Rest assure, nothing to do with your post.

Talking about Quintana

" That is historically in cycling, the true talent is there at 19, 20, you don't come up at 29 years old, you don't come up at 30, that's what was happening the last 20 years, guys would all of a sudden discover themselves. It doesn't happen."

Didn't Wiggins win his first Olympic medal when he was 20?

Didn't you know? The track is a very small pool of talent compared to the road, like mountain biking or cyclocross. Any success there doesn't count, y'hear?

Of course racing around a track for 4kms is ideal preperation for 4000km around France but only Vaughters and Sky knew this, but funny how they have not found any other 4kmers to win some GTs, y'hear????????

Funnily enough I've just been sorting out some old cycling mags and have found an article about Wiggins in Top Velo a French one from 2002, not sure it adds much to the thread, but he was being seen as a stage race rider back then. He was into rowing at that time as well!

And it only took him ten years to show the winning GT ability.

I suspected he might one day win the Tour when he distanced Lance Armstrong on the Verbier climb. He did show GT winning ability before 2012!

What a dumb strawman.

The track doesn't count because its the track. There is more similarity between the 400m in athletics and the 100m in athletics than there is between the 4k individual pursuit in cycling and the Planche des belles filles, or the Angliru, or the Peyresoudes, or the Ventoux.

Quick question. Who was the last person before Wigans to win the TdF AND get a WC medal in the pursuit?

I think you'll be surprised...

Yes, many of us actually watched the '09 TdF when it was happening. When Wigans was at the tender age of 29. And it was even more ridiculous then than it is now.
