Yep, that matters tons once they click into their pedals at start.

It matters before, during and after the race.

Clinic issues aside its easier to cheer for a guy who has something to say, has great musical taste and awesome haircuts.

Meanwhile Froome, Contador, Valverde, Rodriguez - is there anything interesting in this people? Just bland, boring cycling machines.

I'm amazed someone with such a heads I win, tails you lose attitude is not able to take a personal victory from this, after your impressive success in taking personal offence at so much to do with Wiggins.
I never took it personal. What amazes me though is how you went from being the poster who talked most about the giro gc battle for half the giro, to someone who didn't care 1 bit for the gc and just cheered for mountains to be cancelled so cav could win.

I think Wiggins is genuinely injured fwiw, no way he would not want to do SOMETHING in this Tour (Stage victories in the TT stages/TTT stages) even if he is super-dom to Froome, especially after his Giro. But if hes injured, hes injured..

Could be a great opportunity for Kennaugh now if he makes the team because of this !

Also, trying to work out how this affects my biggest bet of the Tour - Porte E/W @ 100-1 !
It seems quaint to think now that when Sky started out with their "British Tour de France winner within 5 years" schtick, Peter Kennaugh was the guy touted. Wiggins at that point was a one hit wonder, and we had no idea if he would ever become a genuine GT winner before he ran out of time (I think I recall saying back then that he'd never finish higher in a GT than he did in 2009, so I was pretty wrong on that one!). Kennaugh had just had a pretty useful showing in the Girobio at 20 years of age (for the record Cayetano Sarmiento, who is 2 years his senior, won... and Richie Porte, who is FOUR years Kennaugh's senior, came 14th, just ahead of Dominik Nerz, who is Kennaugh's age), and was seen as a star of the future.

Nobody even thought to mention Froome. Pre-bilharzia.

Hitch wants to see Wiggins fail.

No I dont. In fact I just said the exact opposite. By what right do you start putting words into my mouth

I don't care if he wins or fails, I just want him to ride because the media image of him in this country was so fake it would have found difficulty surviving this tour.

Its too late for Wiggins to fail. He's already won. Even if he never touches a bike again he has won.

IIRC his contract expires at the end of the season.

I really wouldn't be surprised if he retires, despite 2012 (and him wanting to keep going to Rio 2016).

Maybe he will return his focus on the track and keep a bit part on the road at Sky.

I don't know what yall are complaining about. If there are posts you dont like, why not quote them and challenge them rather than these generalizations blaming the entire forum for something and not even making clear what that is.

Im personally very disapointed he wont make it. It would have been good to see him fall to earth after talking himself up as wanting to win the tour this year, and it would have been hillarious to see him win (hes already won it once so i dont really care if he ends up winning it twice thrice or even 7 times).

You're right of course, I just dislike the sneering, but then I'm not a very partisan cycle fan so I certainly take no pleasure in crashes, injuries, illness or terrible form in a rider. Which was happening in the thread and has happened before (but not an accusation directed at you, y'understand).

And it is a shame to have the champion out, and see how the dynamic within the team might have played out, and what might have happened if Wiggins could have ridden himself into yellow in the ITT.

Perhaps all reasons why he was ushered out the backdoor, if it is a smokescreen. I remarked in another forum I go to that I was reminded of Cound's tweet about Froome and Wiggins never lining up at the race in the same kit again. Curious and curiouser, you might say.

I also agree I think Wiggins would get found out on tougher climbs, like he was in the Giro before retiring. He's a TTer that can climb a bit, he needed a very strong team to win Le Tour and a guard dog in Froome. His lack of ability (so far) to attack solo and damage rivals a la Contador and Nibali (and Froome) makes me think that TdF last year was a perfect coming together of factors and will remain his only GT win. No great shame in that of course.

I was thinking the very same thing. I can imagine there has been alot going on behind the scenes after Wiggin's comments at the start of the Giro. Very curious indeed.

My bad. What i meant is that you want the british people to see how good of a rider Wiggins actually is. I remember you are always talking about how great they think he is while you don't agree with that.

In short you want him to ride against AC (or even Froome) expecting he'll fail;

I know it was against a very weak field, but watching the lincoln grand prix highlights the way he climbed the cobbles was so so easy. His team pursuit palmares WR ! surely makes him able to pull in the TTT (Though he is perhaps not as good as a Stannard or Eisel to draft behind), at any rate if Wiggins' absence leaves a silver lining of him getting in the team that would be good.

What happened to Tiernan-Locke btw  Vuelta plans?

Yeah I for one would like the Brits to really see what Froome recently stated: they had very easy competition last year. They got a glimpse in the Giro. Sadly he got ill which was used as an excuse for even the time he lost before he was ill + I reckon most ppl in the UK really dont care about the Giro - only the Tour.

But besides that, I really just always want the Champ to show up and fight to defend his title.

He is a great rider though. He won the tour where he outclimbed Nibali and all those Olympic medals and podiumed a vuelta that didn't suit him without that much of a team. I admire anyone who rides a bike professionally. I certainly won't mock any of them for their physical abilities.

I have mixed feelings about Wiggins missing the TDF. I believe he was unlikely to win, or beat Froome but it is a shame when a rider doesn't return to defend his title. However, it would also be a shame for the reigning champion to be returning as the second priority on his own squad - as that is not really the way to defend the title.

Don't believe everything you read. That was a sly little dig at Brad. Of course, when he beats Contador this year, everyone can then say what a far greater triumph it was. Wiggins was brilliant last year, and on that course, virtually unbeatable.

Pro riders get injured all the time, and without so much as a flicker on this forum, for your average Joe. It's a mark of the utmost respect and sign that he's held in the very highest regard, that his injury has produced so much predictable sneering, gloating and vitriol.

Get well soon, Brad.
